Eat Feel Fresh: A Contemporary, Plant-Based Ayurvedic Cookbook

This book makes Ayurvedic cooking easy ,simple to follow, delicious and yes, contemporary!
I have purchased a few Ayurvedic cookbooks, and have mixed reviews, but generally they can be rather complex from their tone to their recipes so that becomes off putting. But this book: Eat, Feel, Fresh is remarkable in its simplicity making understand of and cooking with Ayurvedic principles easy and doable. The book is well written, filled with stunning photography and serves are both a guide to Ayurveda and a cook book beginning with some useful resources including a guide to Ayurveda, a resource to discovering your Dosha which is important as each one - Vata, Pitta or Kapha, tends to tie into how and what you should eat. This is followed by a guide to how to eat the Ayurvedic way and the basics to stocking your kitchen to prepare for the recipes that follow. The recipe section is divided into 6 district chapters: Breakfast (for your Dosha), Six taste bowls. Tridoshic dinners, snacks and sides; Desserts and potions such as golden milk or green juice. I particularly love the section on the bowls as after a day at work this is an easy way to throw together a dish that is high in nutrients and quick in prep time. I also really like that fact that these serve one, as you can make as few or many as you want following the basic template. The Thai one is amazing with the warm peanut sauce and uses easy to source ingredients. I am excited to try the Tempeh Tikka next as Tikka was one of my favorite dished growing up in the UK but always with chicken, so this way I get to try a vegan version.Another stand out are the dips - how many vegan books have the same old Guac or plain hummus (which is not exactly "new" ) but this one has Tandoori Cauliflower dip, ginger edamame hummus and avocado tahini dip...excited for these new options. There are also some lovely dished that will lend well to Fall / Winter like a vegan version of Shepherds Pie; the traditional Kitchari which I have made many times but this book offers versions tailored to your Dosha with different additions such as Kale or squash; and some great soups and curries. The desserts also look amazing and different such as Chocolate Bark made with chickpeas and a version of peanut butter cups made with Chai or "Golden Mylk" .On a great note, there is not a call for crazy, complex indients - so a trip to any grocery store will do. And the recipes are easy to follow, which means I will use them time and time again as the one thing I never have enough of is time and hours in the kitchen is not for me.In short, this book makes Ayurvedic cooking easy ,simple to follow, delicious and yes, contemporary. The best Ayurvedic book I own!

Pretty book with not much depth
Great photos...maybe some interesting positioning of Indian names totally out of place on occasion with the photos and the food that complimented it and the names.I was pretty confused. I am from India, living here in US now and was hoping for more recipes adapted for the daily lifestyle here but it seemed more like a memoir of a personal journey of discovery through food and photography.I grew sad a little. It’s an attempt to take something raw, honest, meaningful and useful science and turn it into something glamorous and failing at it.There are so many wonderful receipies from India if there was any real time spent in the kitchen to adapt for a contemporary take. Honor and respect to the knowledge that Ayurveda brings as a whole system is totally lost. I am not sure if the reader can arrive at a method to adapt what is shared for him/her in daily cooking.

Some terminology skeptical... wonderful design and helpful information. Noticing benefits.
Edited to include my review after reading it cover to cover -- This is a beautiful book. The design is stunning and Saharas language is accessible and to the point. Im confused by some of the terminology that's used describing Ayruveda and food. For example. Sahara related food to having a vibrational frequency (redundant) related to bioelectricity. Not sure if she knows what bioelectricity is because it seems to not be used in the right way here. The reason I say that is because she talks about vibration related to abstract energy whereas bioelectricity isn't abstract. See photo. That's my main problem with Ayruveda is they use terms that aren't necessarily being used in the right way so not sure if it's to sound more sciency? I do like how the vibration discussion helps to give a "why" for good habits. However this easily falls into the appeal to nature logical fallacy. Doesn't mean she's wrong just means the argument isn't very good. I highly recommend this book though as it doesn't focus on calories or macros but rather whole foods. Also doesn't treat everyone the same. Some will find the repetition (i.e. so many sweet potato recipes) overwhelming or bleh but it also gives many ideas to a typically not eaten good (i.e. cauliflower). Ive been implementing some of the practices and have noticed my digestion getting better.Having first gotten it -- This book is absolutely stunning. Firm cover, thick but not too thick pages. I'm a fan of a sturdy cookbook cause this thing will get USED. Been reading through the beginning parts and I LOVE how informative yet relatable this book is. Not overwhelming with info either. I feel I can access Ayurvedic information easily through this cookbook and implement it in ways I couldn't before. So happy Sahara put her heart and soul into this - you can tell. Definitely a book I'll use for the rest of my life. Can't wait to implement more of the recipes. I've seen many shared on her IG and they look easy to make, not too complex and best of all - delicious!

This book helped me go back to eating plant-based
I was vegan for YEARS, then switched it up to keto, and something wasn't right. It wasn't that it was meat or plants, but finding Sahara's first book, The Idiot's Guide to Ayurveda and then this one... finally led me back to enjoying more plants as a diet staple again!Fussy recipes drove me away from a plant-based diet, but this one helped bring back all the green (and all the other colors too) goodness. The recipes are simple to make, and most of the ingredients are ones I'm familiar with. Also, the book is just gorgeous. When I received it, I enjoyed an evening on the couch devouring the stories and pictures. If you're plant-based or even if you just want to find some new ways to love veggies again -- this book is IT!

Best cook book I’ve ever bought
This book is amazing. I could leave it there but it’s so good that I feel a need to elaborate so I can truly get the veracity of that statement across. Ayurveda is a beautiful ancient system but there have always been aspects to it which I didn’t agree with or which simply weren’t relevant to today’s day and age.Eat Feel Fresh takes into account not only modern nutritional science relating to grains, dairy, acidity, hormonal regulation and even the fact that food is less nutritious as a result of genetic modification and the over farming of soil but it takes into account our very real emotional relationship with food as well. How to eat to nourish our soul as well as our body and the environment in which we should perform this sacred ritual and as such Sahara details with precision the mind-body connection and how we can learn to be more in tune with ourselves. Lastly, I love the flexibility of this philosophy and how it denounces the idea of a strict diet made up of rules. “Ayurveda is a living, breathing, ever-adaptive science of life.” Just as we as living individuals aren’t static nor is Ayurveda.Eat Feel Fresh teaches you more than some beautiful recipes to make at home. It teaches you a philosophy to live by - one that’s stood the test of time and is tailored for the realities of our 21st century lifestyle.

Recipes my body adores!
I absolutely love this book! I have ME/CFS, which has included many food related problems over the years but finally, in Ayurveda,I've found a way of eating which my body is comfortable with and even loves. I've tried a few other Ayurvedic cook books but none have inspired me like this one. Also I can feel the vibrancy of the fresh foods giving me more energy so I can cook more and more often; it's a refreshing cycle! I'm not craving carbs/sweet foods inbeteen meals like I was and as the foods travel down my digestive tract they feel silky smooth and light, even the mung bean brownies, which I ordinarily find heavy. So far I've made the Chia pudding, Sweet Potato Chickpea Burger, Spaghetti Squash with Lentil-Walnut Plantballs, Sweet Potato Lentil Shepherd's Pie, Mung Bean Brownies and I'm waiting for my Sahasrara (crown chakra) soup to be ready for my lunch. Each recipe is clearly explained and they work so if they're followed carefully even the most inexperienced of cooks should get perfect results. I've read so many reviews of other cook books where reviewers say the recipes don't work so this is a refreshing change because everything is well thought out, tested and proven.I thoughroughly enjoy perusing the pages in search of my next recipe partly due to the stunning, colourful pages and all of the interesting and useful Ayurvedic advice. I have numerous cookbooks but this is the only one I've been using regularly. I urge anyone reading to buy the book without hesitation. My soup's ready! Enjoy the book.

Amazing!!
Amazing!! This book has been the answer to my incredibly long search for finding an eating plan that's right for me. I've been loosely vegan for a few years now mainly due to the ethical and environmental factors associated with animal produce but have not been convinced that it has been the best option for my health.Having tried yoga and meditation to help with the mental struggles I've faced and found that the benefits have been incredible I became interested in the principles of Ayurveda but was disappointed and frustrated by the use of dairy as a main staple within it. This book offers both sensible alternatives and crucially the explanation as to how this food type is utilised by the body in the context of the principles of the Ayuverdic way which once understood is so amazing. Now the only dairy I include in my diet is ghee, I've made swaps in my meal choices to accommodate my dosha and I understand so much more clearly what my body needs to be in balance. I can't recommend this book enough, it is literally the answer to my prayers and has changed my life. I feel more energised, happy and in tune with myself and my spiritual pursuit than ever before. Thank you Sahara Rose 🌹

Best Cook Book I Own
I have bought and passed on a lot of cook books in the past - mostly because they were okay, the food looked amazing but it was too complicated or there were too many ingredients I didn't own... This cook book is totally different. Recipies are really easy to make, so far they have all been delicious - I am never giving it away but recommending it or buying it as a gift! The first section of the book breaks down Ayurveda to really help you understand more about it. The tips on the recipes are fantastic too. So much love has gone in to this book!
