Nitrocellulose and acrylic are not compatible finishes, so it is not recommended to use nitro over acrylic. **Q: can I apply this aged clear lacquer over a previous clear lacquer coat and get the same aged tone described??** A: Thanks for your question. If your existing clear lacquer coat is nitrocellulose, then spraying the ColorTone Aged Clear will work out just fine and will give you an aged, vintage look. Just scuff sand the existing lacquer with 320-grit sandpaper, and your good to go. If the existing finish is NOT nitrocellulose, though, you will not be able to use this product. They have a couple different colors of the black and shouldn’t have an issue in deciphering which one is suitable. My first introduction was for a Gibson SG Supreme nonetheless and found the color to be exact and rich.
