Oh, yeah, especially if it says "Thomas"! You almost have to! There are some other products that say they work, but I don't know about them.

Where can I purchase just the skiff

Not sure. I bought an extra one from Facebook Marketplace. Lots of parents whose kids finally grew out of the train sets selling lots of Thomas Train stuff.

How many trains fit on this set?

We have more than one set, so our set-up is a little different. You could probably put two to three trains on this one--if you can keep up with them and depending how many cars you put on your train!
