I have seen many books over many years. This is truly one of the best, if not THE best.

J'apprends le chinois depuis un peu moins d'un an et j'aime beaucoup lire, mais rien n'est accessible avant très longtemps, sauf avec les graded readers. Donc ici c'est un peu le principe: on est sur un niveau d'entrée (pas HSK 1 mais plutôt 2 à 3).Le livre est composé de 4 contes avec un vocabulaire restreint à 566 mots pour les rendre accessibles.On a d'abord le texte en pinyin (romanisation) qui permet d'avoir accès plus vite mais surtout de travailler les tons à l'oral ce qui est facilité par le fait que le texte enregistré est disponible en ligne.Ensuite on a le texte en chinois mandarin simplifié, les mots plus compliqués sont indiqués en bas. Certains mots sont grisés d'une page à l'autre pour les repérer aisément.Si nécessaire à la fin, on a une traduction mais en anglais puis les noms propres utilisés, enfin un glossaire.Mon mari m'a offert les trois tomes à Noël, je ne suis pas prête d'arriver au bout mais j'en suis ravie.

I got this book for my daughter who is learning Mandarin. It is laid out very well with the characters and the pinyin on opposite pages. There is a glossary in the back to look up any unfamiliar words, and there is even an English translation of each of the four stories. This book can be used to reinforce what she’s already learned, but it can also be used as a study tool for learning characters for the first time. Congratulations to the authors for creating a terrific resource for a new Mandarin reader!
