Will it hold a full size pistol like sig 220 or 226?

Yes, it will hold a full size pistol. However, I was disappointed with mine and returned it.

Is this supposed to come with a manual/instructions?

It's a one page sheet of instructions. The hardest thing is figuring our WHERE and HOW to insert the 9v battery. Mounting it is fairly obvious. Oh, setting the code is probably worth reading on the sheet. Be sure that the KEY is OUTSIDE the vault when you close it the very first time.

Will it work with generic batteries?

Yes, a standard 9-volt battery.
