Get Down With Two Totally Awesome 70s Crime Heist Capers Classic TV icon of the 50s, 60s and 70s, Robert Conrad (Black Sheep Squadron, The Wild Wild West, Hawaiian Eye) and frequent sidekick Don Stroud (License to Kill, The Amityville Horror, The Buddy Holly Story, Joe Kidd) are at their macho best in these action-packed feature films from the mod 70s. Live a Little, Steal A Lot aka Murph the Surf (1975): Based on a true story, details the daring 1964 theft of the J.P. Morgan jewel collection from New York s American Museum of Natural History. Called the Greatest Jewel Heist of the 20th Century, the robbers took 22 precious gems, including the Star of India (a 563.35-carat sapphire), the 100.32-carat de Long Ruby and the 16.25-carat Eagle Diamond (which was never recovered) ... stones so famous they would be impossible to sell. Directed by Marvin Chomsky (Evel Knievel and TV s The Wild Wild West, Star Trek, Gunsmoke, Roots), with one of the original thieves serving as a film advisor. Also stars Burt Young (the Rocky movies) and Donna Mills (TV s Knots Landing). Sudden Death (1977): When Ed Neilson s entire family is viciously murdered, he pleads with retired CIA operative Duke Smith (Conrad) to investigate. He refuses, but relents after Neilson too meets an explosive death. Deception, international intrigue and a ruthless syndicate of businessmen intent on raping a South Pacific Islands nation of its resources keep the pace fast. But when the executives hire a treacherous assassin (Stroud), the two are thrown head-to-head in a predestined match of cunning, wit and brute force. Only one will survive. For the other ... it s Sudden Death. Directed by Eddie Romero (The Twilight People) on location in the Philippines.

but in a funny, Robert Conrad kind of way
Absolutely dreadful, but in a funny, Robert Conrad kind of way. Conrad apparently left his old fight crew from the Wild Wild West behind on this movie and it shows. Great stuff for camppy 1970s entertainment.

Terrible Quality Picture
This DVD looks like it was made by copying an old VHS tape. Did you know that the sky in Miami is green? Well, in the DVD, the sky is green.

Qualité image
La qualité de l'image n'est pas très bonne surtout sur le film sudden death (image un peu trop sombre). Sinon, il est dommage qu'il n'y a pas de version sous titré ou de version française même si je le savais en l'achetant.

You're no Jim West
I specifically bought this movie for the "Live a Little...." feature, but was disappointed by that movie's inability to rekindle any fond memories I thought I had of it. The story was more the bio background of Murf the Surf, played by Don Stroud. The actual heist was a flat balloon with very little suspense or well-timed planning that most heist movies employ. They both got caught and served time, with only the most well-known and valuable stolen gem recovered. As for the other feature, I turned that yawner of in the first 10 minutes. Don't waste your time on either.

OKAY
I'm a big Robert Conrad fan, and have most of his work on DVD. "Live A Little ..." is rather boring, and was tough to sit through. "Sudden Death" was just too violent for me, so I'd give this an "OKAY" rating as I really enjoy seeing Robert Conrad.

Robert Conrad.....The Jewel Robber......
....Two movies made for television in my opinion...Bad quality not to clever a storyline ethier on sudden death......Murph the surf is far better and has a good cast along side Robert Conrad.....worth a few pounds....so we get what we pay for!....
