Why should I use this instead of a spray silicone lubricant?

I can't answer why you should used lubricant. However, I use it when I make homemade soap using certain molds, especially the non-silicone molds to aid in an easier removal of my soaps. I hope I've been helpful. P.S. This product is a "SPRAY SILICONE LUBRICANT!"

Is this release agent made of silicone? or is it for silicone molds? Will it damage silicone molds or castings?

Yes, it is silicone. I use it on a wood mold on which I place Fosshape to make hat inserts (using a steam iron or heat gun). The product works OK. You don't need to use much. It is supposed to be colorless but I notice a slightly yellow stain on the Fosshape, but that is probably coming from the wood (I should have made the mold from some other material). I don't believe it will damage any kind of mold or casting as it does not irritate the skin.

Good mold release-good control of spray and economical.

Good stuff, a little pricy, but if you need it you need it. I find it works very well on my home foundry projects (aluminum and fine sand). A little spritz gives the pattern a good coating and I can pull the pattern out after even the tightest of sand packing. This one is food grade which wasn't necessary, but was the only one available at the time I ordered.

Easy to use spray

I love this spray, I didn’t buy it for a mold though. I use this spray on the inside of my automatic cat litter box. I spray it outside and let it dry after I’ve cleaned the box, no litter sticks to the top of it like before. The bottom is sort of rubbery and this spray keeps the litter from sticking. I would definitely buy again and can think of several different uses for this. It really works.

Good in small doses

Used it for resin molds and seems to go on really nice, but if you put too much it’ll separate the resin. Otherwise it’s great!
