Great purchase
Works as good as a gas power without the noise and constant problems of internal combustion. Battery life is plenty. Very powerful. You could probably edge with this. I wouldn't know though because I bought the edger attachment.

Great product in so many ways, except...
Great product! I want to complain about the instructions. First of all, it comes in three little books, and it's very hard to read because the type is very small and the type is gray instead of black, which makes it even harder to read. They're very redundant. They say the same thing in each one about all the different products that DEWALT makes, when really I just need to know about my string trimmer. It's confusing because there are all these other product references in there. For instance it talks about a gas trimmer and I don't have a gas one. I got the battery one, so why is that in there? Another thing is that they put all the illustrations right on the first two pages, and then in the rest of the text, like four pages later, they refer back to that illustration. Why not put the illustration right there so you can see the text and refer to the illustration at the same time? That would be a lot easier, let me tell you. Luckily, it's very easy to assemble, and if you are already familiar with string trimmers, you will be good to go in no time. Other than that, very happy. It is a DEWALT, so I'm not surprised. It cuts just as well as my gas-powered that it replaces. The battery lasts just about as long as I do at 76, so that's perfect.

Finally needed a new weed whacker so I bought this one...
So here in the great state of CA, where gas weed whackers are bad (I hear this in Mr. Mackey's voice) and unbuyable. My gas powered Troybilt after 10yrs. had a good run but it's tired. Being a Dewalt tool guy, I did my research and thought I'll give this weed whacker a shot. With a 9ah 60v/20v battery it lasts long enough to do both front and backyards edging and removing anything in the cement cracks arounds the house, along the sidewalk and the street gutters. Has plenty of power (has 2 speeds), though I seem to prefer "high speed" for edging the grass and "low speed" for weed clean up in cement cracks and such. It takes a second to ramp up to full speed but it doesnt struggle when it's going. It takes .080 line but if you cheat at your own risk, you could put in .095 and that seems to be a lot more durable especially when its doing work on cement. And I now have used it for approximately 3 months and I can say for sure it a great tool, not perfect and defintely pricy. But there is one thing I did read and thought "oh that happens only to other people not me", well I'm one of those other people now. The trimmer head is STRAIGHT garbage. 3 months and now whatever soft cheap plastic they make the trimmer head out of it has worn out enough to not hold and bump the line out accordingly. The line just flies out now and wraps itself around the trimmer head and gets all knotted up. I did some internet searching and found a video channel called Chickanic on the "tubes" where she explains how to replace the trimmer head on any weed whacker. Looked pretty straight forward, so I bought one. If this works out I will have this Dewalt weed whacker sorted out properly. Though for the amount of money spent, shame on Dewalt for the trimmer head being a lame duck. That is why I'm giving this a 4 star review, debating on a 3 star. Not because of price or missing any particular feature but that crappy trimmer head that came with it. Like everyone else, I absolutely hate messing with the trimmer line, but I especially hate messing with the trimmer head that shouldn't be a problem so soon after buying it.

As Strong As A Gas Trimmer
First of all I have been using gas trimmers for a long time. Iโve also spent plenty of money fixing and maintaining them. Just wish something like this would have been in the picture sooner. My last gas trimmer was leaking fuel all over my driveway and gave me the worst time starting. So this purchase was prompted by my frustration! Now for the great part once assembled ( the instructions leave a lot to be desired) and charged up this trimmer worked great on a test area. Finally yesterday I ran it all around my house. At first in low gear and it made trimming my grass as simple and easy as my gas trimmer. Then I added some of my old attachments (edger, hedge clippers) on high gear and it did the job better than my old gas trimmer. Yes, you can use other attachments on this model which was what I wanted to do. Never expecting my older craftsman attachments to work. This item was highly rated and I can see why it is strong and capable. Looks very sturdy and has a solid feel. The battery is a bit heavy and may take some time to get used to but no heavier than a gas trimmer. The battery life was exceptional also, ran it for a solid two hours with minimal battery burn. I am so glad that I made purchase and went green! Donโt think twice spend your money once on a solid item once.

1 MAJOR safety flaw!
1 MAJOR safety flaw! I've had and used a lot of grass/weed trimmers. This is a great one with a major (MAJOR) safety flaw!! The rock and litter guard is WAY, WAY too small, inadequate and dangerous. It has thrown rocks big enough, hard enough and far enough to break a tempered glass window, damage siding and can be felt through my safety boots. I have a lot of DeWalt tools. However, I can't believe DeWalt would offer this unsafe tool or that there hasn't been a safety recall. They do sell separately, a larger guard that should have been original on this trimmer.

Best Tool I Ever Recieved. 10 stars
I'm not easy to impress and absolutely despise company's that talk up their products that simply do not deliver, This trimmer from Dewalt is different. By a mile. I can confirm with a 9ah flexvolt battery this trimmer will cut nicely on grass and typically weeds growing for 30 min on the low setting. Just like the youtuber princess cut said, it cut great even on low, I never needed the high setting and my grass and weeds were 1ft tall in areas. I was able to almost complete my entire property and my sleeping neighbors never heard a thing, amazing tool and maybe the best gift I ever received. THIS sold me on Dewalt cordless tools. Oh, and it's lighter and more comfortable by far than my gas powered stihl and Miriami trimmers which I absolutely have to use a harness with and even then my messed up vertibre in my back (fecet syndrome, 1 mm of space for my nerves where should be 12mm or so) hurts so bad I have to stop and let it settle down, sometime not getting back till the next day..well, no harness on the dewalt and back is fine...unreal. This tool has got to be the best trimmer on the planet. It simply blows my mind the power this has and the comfort it delivers. No more trios to town for gas, mixing in oil, washing gas off hands etc. This trimmer is a complete game changer and a wake up call. If you are on the fence about trying battery power cordless tools, do yourself a favor and try any Dewalt tool and I'm sure you won't be back to a cord or gas powered..there is just no need anymore...for most tools you need.

Powerful, Quieter, and Easier to Handle
Much quieter, lighter and easier for me to handle things version. We have 2 batteries and we are ready to stop WAY before those batteries run down. We charge mostly over night so can't say exactly how long it takes. Easy to do quick clean up and we have also cleaned out heavily over grown areas that took a couple of hours. We also bought the saw/disk extension for this machine. It has cleared out inch thick weed stems efficiently. Very satisfied. Have sold our gas version of weedeaters and also switched to Dewalt's electric chainsaws.

Lightweight good for light duty use
Good for lawn care! Itโ blasts through battery fast though so your going to want to have a few of them.

Quality stuff.
I shopped around and was not disappointed with my choice. So much so that I then ordered a second battery. I jury-rigged a shoulder harness using a strong camera strap (NIKON) and was happy right away.
