Informative both in picture and word
I have a two newly 7 year olds and a newly 4 year old who read this with me. It was a fantastic introduction to George Washington, and painted a lovely picture of his life from childhood on. It touches on the disparity of wealth, slavery, and war, though it doesn't go in detail. The illustrations add such wonderful detail and keep kids attention while you read the longer passages. Overall a lovely book and wonderful introduction to George Washington.

Another fine d'Aulaire book
This is a great book for young readers to read themselves though it makes a fine read aloud as well. Each chapter is only one page long with a nice picture on the other side. The print is nice and big and the words are interesting but not difficult.

A perfect biography of Washington that you can either read to your kids or that they can read to themselves. The story details his birth, childhood, early education, his time spent on America's frontier, the Revolutionary War, his presidency, and his later years. The text is accompanied by lovely and appropriate pictures. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to teach their child/students more about George Washington.

Educational and Enjoyable!
For families outside of the US, this is a fantastic book to learn some American history. It is a really engaging book, with pictures on each page, and bite-sized segments of facts, so the children can take it all on board. Highly recommended!

This is a GREAT read for kids and adults!
This D'Aulaire book is both beautiful and engaging. The illustrations are Grandma Moses"ish" and the text is captivating enough to hold the attention of young, squirmy boys. All of the D'Aulaire titles that we have seen are great and can all be found new at The Book Peddler online if not here on Amazon. Highly recommended!
