Photo Restoration and Retouching Using Corel (R) PaintShop Pro (R) X5

Usually one author covers what the other doesn't. This volume is for photo manipulation. The one I got earlier (Picture Yourself Learning PaintShop Pro X5 by one Diane Koers) approaches it from the Graphics angle, and gets into the tools.I don't know about you but I can't just sit and read one of these types of books for recreation. I usually doze off.When these come into their own is when I need a trick or a technique, and go to the Index. So far, they've both been useful on that basis.I started way back, with Paintshop Pro 5, when it was the cheap alternative to the bloated CorelDraw or the even more bloated Photoshop. It was quick and it did the job... as far as it went. Many years ago I wrote and taught adult students the use of Paintshop Pro 5, at the local college. The course was very well-received. I set it up as a local intranet on a CD, so the students could progress at their own pace, and anywhere they could get a seat in front of a PC with a Rom Drive fitted.Came across it just the other day, and tried some of the tricks and tips. Like Paintshop Pro 5, it seems to work even better (quicker) in Windows 7.If like me you now run Windoze 7, then try old Paintshop Pro 5 when you need sheer speed... it resizes, crops, edits, and lets you create text effects in no time at all.You may think Paintshop Pro X5 is expensive, not compared to it's competition, but still not a cheap item all the same.Well here's a tip you won't find in many places... there is a disc which I presume is intended to be sold with new PCs, called PC Essentials and the year. The current one being PC Essentials 2013. Now even discounting the other material on the disc (Corel Office, Digital Scrapbook Artist 2, Easy Video Editor 3, Cook'n Recipe Organiser, Pageplus Essentials Deluxe, Printmaster Platinum,Professor Teaches Windows 8, and Typing Instructor for Kids Platinum), you can pay a very few pounds and get the last item on this disc... Paintshop Pro X5. The disc is accompanied by a piece of paper with all serial numbers which may be required to install the programs... including Paintshop Pro X5.The way to find one of these discs, at least it has been for me for the last couple of years, is to set a Saved Search on eBay for PC Essentials in Sofware. The rest of course is up to you. I've just tried the Search myself today (29/07/2013) and found a copy offered for £4.99 plus £2.60 Postage.And I do appreciate that this leaves you having shelled out on books, but the saving on what you pay for the software (see above) makes it a better deal.Paintshop Pro 5 seems to have survived the transitions from Windows 3.1 through 95, 98, 2000, XP, and Vista. Not something a lot of the packages from those times can claim. Although you can overcome this usually, by using the Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode... but that's another story.Buy the disc, buy the books... both of which by the way, are from the same publisher and come in the same heavy glossy paper, which makes them something you won't want to carry far.QF 29-07-2013

This is an excellent book. It has a large number of "problem" photos which the author (and reader) walks through to achieve a good picture. The book covers many of PSP 5's features and should be very useful to all user levels - but expecially beginners.

Great to learn the program

I have used this product for years. This is an update to my old version. Paintship Pro will allow you do do just about anything that a photo my require.
