The Allman Brothers Band Classic Memorabilia 1969-1976 (Music and the American South Series)

Good - just could and been better
I bought this for 2 reasons. 1) I love the ABB and 2) the reviews were great. I was disappointed, however, as the photo's were not as great as I thought they'd be, as well as the fact there are less than I thought there would be. There are some nice photo's however, I personally would have liked a few more in concert shots as well as more of the guitars, including Dickey's guitars. Some of the memorabilia shots were random stuff in my opinion, like tickets stubs. I was hoping for more varied equipment shots as well, as mentioned before, concert shots and some for Betts stuff. It was nice to have photo's of, say, the famous road case as well as Duane's glass slide bottles etc. The book could have been longer in pages, beefed up with a decent array of shots. Perhaps it's just me, I don't know. I certainly rate this below the 'full cream' photo release, by Nettie Baker, (which doesn't have that good a write up). For the price, I'm not sure it's worth it, and I say that as a mega ABB fan however, I bought it now and it is what it is. I would have one more browse through it and that's about it really. I can't see myself picking it up again after that for a while.

And the Road Goes on Forever
Growing up in the 1970’s, the Allman Brothers were my favorite band and Duane Allman was my favorite musician. I can not count the times that Duane's guitar and especially his slide playing have enriched my life. I was very happy to see that The Allman Brothers Band Classic Memorabilia 1969 - 1976 was being published because I have always been fascinated by the Duane’s music and anything else related to the band.It is obvious that the book was lovingly curated by both Willie Perkins and Jack Weston. I found the introductions to each chapter by Willie and Jack to be very informative in their own different way, Willie as the road manager for the band and Jack as an avid Allman Brothers collector. I thought the book was very well organized, easy to read and the images comprehensive.Reading the chapter on Posters, Handbills and Programs, it immediately took me back to visiting my local head shop with the excitement of buying Live at the Fillmore East and marveling at the band posters and tapestries on the wall and how the smell of incense would stay with you long after leaving the store. As someone who is passionate about the band and their history, the chapter on Vintage Photographs was very exciting because I had never seen many of the images before. The reproduction quality on the photo’s was excellent and focus very sharp. One of the unexpected discoveries in the book was being able to examine the Income and Expense ledger sheets from 1970, where you could actually see that the band got paid $1,250 to play the Warehouse in New Orleans on November 7 and then $4,000 to play the Fillmore East in New York on December 12.There is so much material in the book that I will be able to go back and review chapters and images for many years to come to gather more information about this incredible time in rock and roll. I highly recommend The Allman Brothers Band Classic Memorabilia 1969 - 1976 not only for diehard Allman Brothers fans but also music fans in general because as Michael Buffalo Smith said, “this is a Big House Museum in book form.”

Allman fan must-have
I kinda bought this as an add-on surprise Christmas gift for my Allman Brothers fan son thinking he'd think it was thoughtful but just OK. No, he thinks it is AWESOME and he loves it! If you're an Allman fan, I guess you HAVE TO HAVE THIS and I'm so glad I got it for him!
