Creative, Clever, and Fun
This mat is one of three different sections (city, countryside, coast) you can buy for the Wings of Glory game system. The mats have detailed roads and rivers that if you look closely will line up with the other mats. By turning the mats you can extend the game surface into a grid as big as you want and have room to play.I love these mats. Yes the price seems high at first, but they are not cheap quality junk that will be wrecked in a year. They are built to last and bring the game to life. The material they are made of is basically a giant, thick mouse pad that holds the plane bases well and does not allow them to slide like on a typical table.Recommend highly!

Not just for table top gamers.
I recently discovered Wings of Glory. I have no interest in the game but LOVE the miniatures they use. Most are 1/144 scale but a few are 1/200 scale (if that matters to you). They are very well done and compare favorably with other brands like Wings of the Great War (though these are mostly 1/72 scale). The stand is unique because it has a large base (good for NOT tipping over) with info about the aircraft and the look of a map, with segments to display the aircraft at different altitudes. I have a LOT of these now and am delighted that they include many aircraft types which are NOT available from Wings of the Great War (such as the giant Zeppelin Strakken R VI bomber). If you love model aircraft, you will love these...game or no game.

Easy play, elegant rules, so much fun.
WofG is a fun and elegant gaming system. No deck building a la x wing, nor any counter intuitive rules interpretations or updated FAQs.You pick manuvers from the card deck, place them in sequence on your control panel, you place the card in front if the plane, you move the plane. That's it. Adcanced rules can be added a la carte as the players' experience builds.Damage is determined without dice. Damage counters are selected at random and placed face down on the target's control panel. Damage could be 0 or up to 8 with special damage. This removes the feeling of being robbed by the dice (x wing again: six red attach dice all blanks = table flip).Which leads to longer engagements in which planes can have up to three or more passes before an opponent is destroyed. A two-on-two dogfight can be up to two hours. If you liked/loved x wing, you will be amazed at just being able to fly without referencing cards and cascading effects. This is not a critique of x wing (I have many many ships), it s just this is so much smoother and fun to play.

If you love airplanes...
This is an old school type of game. Not like modernized X-wing, which is appropriate since it’s a WWII setting. The miniatures are very nice, but some pieces like props and struts can be delicate. The bases are nice and fit perfectly over the maneuver cards. This is a game like chess..planning all your moves, and those of your opponent, preparing each move to eliminate them, all about strategy. However, the planes do not really matter...pick the one you like the look of, because these don’t really follow the actual specs of the real thing, they are all kinda similar making it easy to have a balanced game. It’s hard to find some planes. It’s a fun dog fight game. If you love airplanes, you will like the miniatures, but you will not like the lack of attention to the specs of each aircraft, if you can ignore that, then enjoy your strategy and the ability to fly indoors (even in formation), on top of that...people who aren’t into specs will play.

Wicked cool game of WWI Air Combat.
As the title of the product suggests, this includes only the rules and accessories to play this fabulous game. You also need to purchase planes to fly. You can get by with only two, but it's a whole lot more fun with 4 or 6 airplanes on the board. As a flying tabletop miniatures game, this game is great because it's quick to set up, quick to take down, allows for flying in 3 dimensions, and there is no meta-gaming. I say this to contrast it to the X-Wing Miniatures game, (which I love), but the latter requires pre-play planning, laborious assembly of your fleet, and intense meta-gaming. Our gaming group has really enjoyed Wings of Glory WWI for its simplicity, fast action and the fact that you can set up, play, and tear down in less than 2 hours.

It's particularly good with a soundtrack playing
I finally got around to playing this with my son, last week. It's instantly addictive, and we've already spent hours playing it on the bed mattress (which is the only big flat surface available in our apartment, bar the floor). It's particularly good with a soundtrack playing. I made one from movie clips, and play it on a loop: Neeeeeaaaoooooowww!!! Rat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat!!! We don't wear flying goggles and helmet when playing - but that's only because we don't have any.The packaging was a bit flimsy - and the box arrived with the contents falling out. Miraculously, nothing was missing.Great game.

Looks Good
As before see my City Map review for general comments. This one is probably the best choice for a first by as its the most `all round` of the three maps.
