Classic song along with hidden gems...
To be honest I have never owned more than a greatest hits compilation from Sheena Easton in the past. Not that I didn't like her enough it's just I was worried I would not like the album cuts as much as the hits. I then started listening to her more as I got older. Once the amount of current good music settles down I tend to start buying older stuff and re-listening to it to see if things appeal to me more as I get older (but not old). I am not saying there isn't a lot of great stuff coming out, as there are. I just ordered the new cds from Lykke Li and Natalie Merchant. It's just that there aren't as many great artists or albums coming out at the speed that they used to. This set was a pleasant surprise. I am a huge Prince fan, and I have loved all of the Prince/Sheena Easton collaborations in the past. So I Had to start with this one (I have since ordered the second two disc set as well as the single cd with bonus tracks of the album with telephone etc). I was pleasantly surprised by the how great she sounds. While the radio hits showcased that talent some of the deeper cuts makes it more apparent.Though the second album "Do You" had more songs on it that I never heard of, it's still a great album. I'm not one to objectify women or anything, but once Sheena started presenting herself as more of a sex symbol it seemed her music seemed to get more edgy as well. Not that she has to use her appearance to sell her albums but it seemed part of her evolution to incorporate her sexy side, it seemed to elevate the songs as well. But for all of her beauty, her songs seem to appeal more to the average person, her longings, disappointments and desires speaks to anyone who is listening, not just the sexy people. The songs showcase her talent, and her vocals are top notch. She can sound very pop or can segue easily into r&b (she did a version of a Prince-penned song called "eternity" that not only rivaled but surpassed Chaka Khan's version). Anyone who is a fan of great pop songs or sensual ballads or even ballsy (if you'll pardon the term), empowered sexually driven rock n' roll, you'll find something to love on this set. The two albums are separated by disc each having bonus songs/b-sides. It's a great way to relive the memories of her radio hits as well as revisiting one of pop's greatest sirens. She was more popular in the U.S. than in her native U.K. and she can stand shoulder to shoulder with her American contemporaries. There are many songs here to love, and I would highly suggest revisiting this artist and seeing what she has to offer, you won't be disappointed.

Sheena Easton Fans: You'll Love This Special CD Collection!
Sheena Easton, sings like an Angel! One of the most, beautiful voices, I ever heard! She's one of the, best singers ever! The first song I heard from her. Was " Morning Train" I loved it!! I've been listening, to her music since then. I'm very happy! to have this Special Deluxe CD Collection! With my most favorite, album on it. A Private Heaven. My favorite song is " Sugar Walls." I love the blend of funk & pop! A great dance groove! And a brilliant song! Written by Prince! My next favorite song is " Strut" another awesome song! I love the beat to song! A great pop tune! " Swear" has a catchy chorus! I like the guitar intro! With a perfect pop/ danceable beat! I also love the beautiful pop ballad. " It's Hard To Say It's Over." And all the 12 inch songs! The ( Do You) album, I like too. My favorite song is "Do You" beautiful vocals! I love this R&B/ dancefloor song! " Magic Of Love" is a catchy! From start to finish! It's a slow/ nice, R&B tune. This Special Deluxe Collection. Is a must for all Sheena Easton fans!

Sugar Walls is the only stand out track between these 2 albums.
A Private Heaven has one song that has a hook to it, "Sugar Walls" and thanks to Prince for that track, it has a great hook, a great beat and the song get's stuck in your head especially that part where she screams towards the end. The dance mix and red mix of Sugar Walls are great as well; otherwise the album is just a paper weight. It's dull, Strut misses the mark in my opinion and Swear is just the same. Back In The City is worth a listen to but it really doesn't have a hook, a decent beat at best. The album Do You is a little better but not by much. It doesn't have any stand out tracks in my opinion but it has a better sound and vibe. I've always admired Sheena Easton's vocal abilities but she could have had a better team producing her with the exception of interaction between her and Prince. She could have had better songs selected for her as well. I'll always remember her for Morning Train, Sugar Walls, U Got The Look w/Prince, For Your Eyes Only and We've Got Tonight w/Kenny Rogers. So she's not a one hit wonder but she has no memorable albums in my opinion.
