What size drill bit do I need for drilling the tile?

Ray, If bar is being mounted to wooden wall studs, hole in tile should be large enough for the fastener to pass through. You want the fastener to pull against the wood & not the tile, which you may break. If mounting with plastic anchors start with a 3/16” bit & perhaps enlarge with a screw driver to achieve a tight fit.

What is the additional hardware needed to install on bath tile?

I DIDNT NEED ANY ADDITIONAL HARDWARE, YOU DO NEED A DRILL BIT AND SCREW DRIVER.

how large is mounting area where screws attach?

The mounting flange is 3" in diameter, and the escutcheon plate that covers the mounting flange is about 3-1/4" in diameter. Details: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CLHBN4X?ref_=pe_527950_33920250_dpLink&th=1
