GATCO Scepter Diamond Take Down

The Gatco scepter is an awesome field tool. The carbide sharpener is good for giving a blade's geometry a quick fix and the diamond rod is good for edge refinement. The rod has a channel cut into it for hook sharpening. If you unscrew the diamond rod there is a firesteel underneath. I wish they made it replaceable but it looks like it's epoxied in. I guess you could drill it out and replace it if it's worth the hassle for you. Couple things to note: I put a drop of thread locker on the screws holding carbide blades because they come loose and I lost a blade (lesson learned) and the diamond rod could be used as a makeshift marlin spike for undoing knots and the scepter as is can be used as a glass breaker.

This is compact, well-made, ergonomic, and well worth the money!!

The “redi edge” is great and gets great reviews. So I laughed when I see people critiquing this and giving it a low review because they think it could be improved. The redi edge does one thing this does 4. And the one thing it does have in common with the redi edge it works just as well. If you were looking at something similar to this BUY IT!

It is a great little tool for sharping a knife. I keep it in my hiking backpack and it does a good job sharping in the field. I haven't used the ferro rod yet but they are fairly bullet proof so not worried. It is a little pricey but I like the two tools in one.

I wanted to like this, I really did. I buy every ferro/sharpening gadget out there....Does it do what it advertises ... yes.Is there room for a ton of improvement? YES!This is a portable item.... meant for a pack. Well, then make a blaze orange option, it comes in gun metal grey only, you drop it, you may lose it.The serration tool is great, overkill... which makes the miniscule firesteel look even worse.Firesteel also not replaceable, bummer given its size. You may be able to glue a new one in if (a) it fits and (b) you can dig the old one out.The knife sharpener is super small and no ceramic option like on the lansky.The thing is huge for what it is, and yet has no room for tinder storage.At the end of the day Id buy a pocket lansky and an exotac firesteel(beefier and room for tinder) and the combination of the two are still smaller and weigh less, but superior in every way.This was a nice try, but they need a version 3.0
