F’phin Fun!
I don’t write many reviews, but this purchase definitely warranted one. The Nguyen 4 oz. Phin Filter is a simple, fun, and efficient way to make a strong cup of coffee. I ordered mine as a bundle with the Loyalty blend and have made a few cups since receiving it over the weekend. The taste is unlike most coffee blends you’ve likely had before - it’s bold and packs a wallop. I love knowing that I’m supporting a small business with my purchase and that the beans come from an excellent source. If you’re thinking about grabbing one, just do it. You’ll have tons of fun drippin’ and sippin’ with this!

some tips from a first time user
I was very curious about Vietnamese Coffee so I picked this up on Prime Day to give it a shot. I am not disappointed - it's a well made stainless steel brewer that seems to do what a phin is supposed to do. But there's definitely a learning curve with Vietnamese coffee, and I'd like to share a couple things here that will hopefully make your life easier should you choose to buy one.First, and this is the most important thing I can impart to you: most brewing ratios in specialty coffee are measured in grams, but the 1:2 ratio described by this brand is a weird mix of ounces and tablespoons. This drove me nuts trying to find a recipe that confirmed what I was figuring out through trial and error, but the actual GRAMS ratio is roughly 1:7 (beans/water). Thus, for the 4 oz size, you'll want to do about 15 grams of coffee to 105 grams of water, split into two pours of 20-ish (bloom) and 85-ish. Yes, it'll be crazy strong. Also, remember to grind a bit finer than for pour-over (I'm using 12 on my Timemore C3)Second: if, like me, you don't want to use high-sugar condensed milk, it's best to view this as primarily an iced tea brewer. Hot unsweetened robusta coffee is... uh... interesting, but it's much better if you brew it directly over ice and drink it cold. It's actually quite excellent cold and unsweetened, and brewing 105 grams hot onto about 100 grams of water-ice seems to do the trick.Anyway,. I like having specific numbers to hit with the brewing ratio so I can evaluate other variables like grind size and temperature, so hopefully this is helpful for anyone else who feels the same. Good luck!

Makes great Vietnam style coffee
Works perfect. I like that the filter and bottom plate are separate, the bottom plate is a secondary filter.Cheaper made ones are one-piece with bottom plate attached and only one filter. This is a much better brew system.

It gets the job done, but…
This has been my first purchase of a phin and I really enjoyed this one, however the handle to the filter fell off in less than 2 months of purchasing. Maybe I got a bad one, but for the most part it did get the job done. Was easy to clean, easy to follow instructions, and compact - perfect for travel.

Dripper Measurement!
I did not get to use this because it did not fit, but I’d like to share the measurements of the dripper part of the 24oz Phin. The dripper part is angled slightly and shaped almost like a saucer, with holes where the “teacup” would go, and the brim or plate around. The basket sits securely inside the brim/plate, over the little holes of the dripper part. The bottom of the dripper measures 3 3/4 inches, where the top of the dripper measures 4 inches. So, more than 3 3/4 could arguably fit well enough, and 4 inches would be securely. I believe the diameter of the outer-to-outer brim edge is 6 inches.•••So, the 24oz Phin would best fit a 4-6” diameter.•••Woe to me, my pot’s diameter was just under 3 3/4, so I had to return. I might get a smaller one for single cups. The Phin itself felt very sturdy, like I’d have to really beat it up to dent or break it. The pieces are straightforward, and it came in a little drawstring bag in a cute blue box.5 stars because everything was as described! See other reviews for function quality.

Nice
I find this coffee maker to be exactly what is advertised I find that it does require a large carafe to sit on to brew but other than that it makes a very fine cup of coffee no matter the grind of coffee used

Amazing authentic Phin great quality
This was so worth the wait I’d recommend anyone thinking of getting into Vietnamese coffee to but this brand of Phin , it came well packaged. And within its own cotton bag which is handy for storage , I’m so glad I bought this brand it’s super high quality and it’s appearance is stunning , it’s very easy to use and clean . The size is perfect for two people and I would recommend Vietnamese coffee co for beans as they taste awesome through the phin
