The Wonderful Wizard of Oz & The Marvelous Land of Oz (Illustrated Novel) (Illustrated Classics)

I thought this thinking it could be a full graphic novel. However with that being said it’s not a full graphic novel. I don’t care. The artwork is beautiful when there is artwork, and makes you want to read more and more of the story.

The book itself was in very fine condition when it arrived and within a good time frame at arrival. I myself have a collection of the oz books in the form of graphic novels with Eric Shanower's picture adaptations and this new addition is very nice manga illustrations. Hopefully, Seven Seas Entertainment will come up with the remainder of the books so that I, along with other Oz lovers, can enjoy those old books with that new manga twist.

I not only got the book much sooner than I excpected, it was in MUCH better shape than I had expected. I bought it for the purpose of cutting it up and using certain sections from it, but because it was in such lovely shape, I cannot bear to cut it! I had to go and order another cheap book to cut! Thank you -- great buy!!!

I just find out that there's more of kriss sison art that i immediately went finding them and bought it. It arrived early as i hope to be with perfect condition and new i cant wait reading them!!😄😄😄

It's a lot more religious than I thought, but such pretty artwork and story line.

I’ve read the first book only once before, but I was really young and recall not liking it much because it was different than the original film.However, December of 2023, I had gotten into a huge Oz phase, of which I’m still in. This caused me to scour the internet for many Oz related media as I could, which led me to becoming a huge fan of not only the classic 1939 movie, but also the 1985 unofficial sequel, “Return to Oz”; the Tom & Jerry version of the 1939 film as well as its sequel, “Back to Oz”; the unpopular 2014 animated film, “Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return”; the 2017 series, “Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz” and finally the 1986 anime, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, which is also based fairly close on the books and which I pictured a lot while reading since I recognized many scenes from this book as having been in the show.As a result, I’ve also been wanting to reread the first book, but was unable to procure a copy for myself. Luckily, a friend had gifted me this for Christmas and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was not only the first novel, but the second as well!It was a very enjoyable read and I love the beautiful illustrations and most of the character designs, which made the reading all the more fun!My only gripe is the illustrator’s design of the Wicked Witch of the West. The Witch is described to be an old woman and most other versions depict her as old and/or ugly, yet here she’s depicted as a fairly attractive and busty woman whose clothes accentuate that part of her design. I feel this design is just not at all suitable or appropriate for the Witch and her character (certainly not what Baum had in mind) and acts more like unnecessary fanservice that took out a bit of the immersion when I reached her scenes. The design lessened her threatening and powerful demeanor.Regardless of that questionable design choice, I still thoroughly enjoyed reading and would recommend this version to anyone interested! I wish the other Oz books was adapated in this way, but I’d still read them (and am interested to) as they originally were made!

I love the pictures in this edition. They were so amazing and brought the book to life!

The Wizard of Oz is a classic story that has been retold in various media, and I've always wanted to include it in my library. When I saw this 2-in-1 version with the second novel, The Marvelous Land of Oz, I had to get it.The illustrations are beautifully done in a manga art style and bring the stories to life. The inclusion of character design pages are a nice addition.

英語力上げるのも兼ねて、洋書読んでみたいなあーと色々探しているうちに本書にたどり着きました。アリス未読正直英語力と忍耐力に自信がなかったので、仮に挫折しても可愛い女の子のイラストを買ったと思えば後悔しないだろうという不純な動機で購入。結論から言うと大正解でした。購入動機にもなったのですが、やはり本書の魅力は何と言っても素敵なイラストですね。表紙の様な挿絵が巻頭カラーで１０ページ、文章中の挿絵もかなりの頻度で入っています。大体の５か６ページに１枚くらい。日本のラノベとは比べ物にならない密度です。イラスト自体も魅力的ですが、これは英語学習中の人にも大きな助けになります。私の様に英語力に自信がないと、読んでて「あれ？今どういう状況だっけ？」とか「いつの間に場面転換したんだ・・・」と思うことが結構あります。かといって、辞書片手に読んだりなんかしたら、一向に進まなくて非常にイライラします。しかしながら本書は豊富なイラストによって、自分の頭の中の齟齬を修正することが可能です。オズの魔法使いという作品自体も流石名児童書と言うべきか、非常に分かりやすい文章とストーリーとなっています。私は本書で初めてオズの魔法使いという作品に触れたのですが、魅力的なキャラクターの掛け合いに終始楽しみながら読ませていただきました。英語の小説に興味あるけど難しそう、という人に初めての１冊として是非オススメします。

Kriss Sisonさんがイラストを手がけた前作「不思議の国のアリス＆鏡の国のアリス」に魅了され、今回も楽しく拝見させていただきました。前作アリスを気に入られた方で、今作はどうだろう？と迷われてる方がいましたら、「迷わず購入！」と、おすすめできる仕上がりだと思います。今作も、絵の質もすばらしい（とてもかわいらしい（笑））し、挿絵の量も前作同様良い感じで入っています。私の場合、ドロシーの可愛いさはもちろんなのですが、かかしやブリキの絵がとても気に入っています。「そう、まさにこういうキャラクターや世界観をイメージしてた！」と、物語を読んで想像するイメージとイラストがすごくしっくりきました。（むしろ想像よりもずっと綺麗で可愛い世界観でした♪）繰り返しになりますが、アリスを気に入られた方なら今作も気にいっていただけると思います。そして、今作が初めての方は、表紙の絵を見てピンと来るものがあれば購入して損はしない1冊だと思います。また、さらに気に入っているところは、前作同様1冊でオズシリーズの1作品目と2作品目がまとめて読めるという点です。「オズの魔法使い」と「オズの虹の国（オズのふしぎな国）」が両方読めて、カットなどなしの原作完全英語版、そして Kriss Sisonさんのイラスト挿絵付。初めて英語の原作を読んでみたいと思われている方、また、勉強の教材にしたいと思われている方にもおすすめだと思います。イラストが豊富でとっつきやすい点と、（これは私の場合ですが）次のイラストの場面を見たいというモチベーションに駆られ英語だけどがんばって読み進めたい と思わせてくれる点が大きな理由です。私は、Kriss Sisonさんのイラスト付原作シリーズに出会えて本当に良かったと思っています。かなり贔屓目なレビューとなってしまいましたが、心からそう思った感想です。これから購入される方に、少しでも参考になれば幸いです。そして、この本を手にして最初にページをめくった時の感動を同じように味わっていただけたなら私もとても嬉しく思います。
