Unlocking the Spell: A Tale of the Wide-Awake Princess Review: Fun continuing story of an unmagical princess - I had found several books in this series at a thrift store to read to my 6 year old granddaughter. When I realized this was a 7 book series and I only had 3 of the books I found and ordered the remaining books from desertcart. The story is unique in magic and princess books, interspersing fairy tale characters (some are a little more twisted than the originals) throughout the book. This one follows two princesses (sister's) as they try to find a magical spell to reverse an enchantment on the true Love of one of the girls. There are witches, fairies, wolves, talking animals, dwarves and Snow White; everything to make a fantastical story. My granddaughter loves the books, I read 2-3 chapters each night, and I'm starting the 3rd book The Bravest Princess. I recommend it for older elementary and middle school readers, and adults who love the light fantasy genre. A fun summer read. Review: Delightful fun for middle grade readers. - I've loved everything I've read by E.D. Baker and this book was no exception. With plenty of humor and heart, I eagerly followed Annie on her quest to find help for her sister's betrothed. I love the idea of a character upon whom magic has no effect, it creates unique and often humorous situations for both Annie and those around her both good and bad. The writing flows smoothly and allows the reader to focus on the story rather than the words (always a good sign in my opinion). I enjoyed reading about the different fairy tale characters in roles both old and new. For example, Old Mother Hubbard as a peacemaker, evil dwarves, Snow White, along with lots of fairies make the book a delight to read. There is a nice touch of romance, just enough to satisfy middle grade girls. A fun light read, perfect for middle grade girls. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | 1619631946 | | Best Sellers Rank | #1,063,611 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #2,259 in Children's Action & Adventure Books (Books) #5,674 in Dragons & Mythical Creatures Fantasy (Books) #9,891 in Sword & Sorcery Fantasy (Books) | | Book 2 of 7 | Tales of the Wide-Awake Princess | | Customer Reviews | 4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars (510) | | Dimensions | 5.1 x 0.75 x 7.7 inches | | Edition | Reprint | | Grade level | Kindergarten and up | | ISBN-10 | 9781619631946 | | ISBN-13 | 978-1619631946 | | Item Weight | 8 ounces | | Language | English | | Print length | 288 pages | | Publication date | April 1, 2014 | | Publisher | Bloomsbury USA Childrens | | Reading age | 10 - 14 years | ## Images ![Unlocking the Spell: A Tale of the Wide-Awake Princess - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/815GUD8IBFL.jpg) ![Unlocking the Spell: A Tale of the Wide-Awake Princess - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81KQcHA-I+L.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fun continuing story of an unmagical princess *by D***N on July 31, 2022* I had found several books in this series at a thrift store to read to my 6 year old granddaughter. At first I was worried that the second book may not be as good as the first one but this book exceeded my expectation. The sequel to the wide awake princess was hilarious with many twists and turns! It did have more romance than the first one. I loved this book and I recommend it to anyone who loves fairytales and happy books! I would recommend this book to kids eight and up. Some of the book was a little bit cheesy and had some unnecessary parts. The author could have developed the characters a little bit better, but besides that everything came together in the end. --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.jp/products/29638311-unlocking-the-spell-a-tale-of-the-wide-awake-princess](https://www.desertcart.jp/products/29638311-unlocking-the-spell-a-tale-of-the-wide-awake-princess) --- *Product available on Desertcart Japan* *Store origin: JP* *Last updated: 2026-10-05*
