Sound Shark Long-Range Microphone - Premium Kit

I purchased this device in the Premium Kit form (i.e. With an included Lav mic) for a somewhat specialized application: I am documenting the experience of 5 adult ice skaters as they train for a "skating with the stars" competition, and I need to capture video/audio of them practicing and hopefully saying humorous things as they struggle on the ice. There is not time to individually mic everyone using wireless lav mics, as they tend to be rushed when arriving and leaving practice sessions, and attaching lavs properly to prevent noise from shifting clothing and breathing is time consuming. So I am using a Sound Shark instead. While it is clear that the sound being picked up when the subjects are 20 or more feet away is "remote", it is pretty amazing how well this device works. It is completely meeting my needs. I am also impressed at how well it works in shorter distance situations: very similar sound to having the subjects wearing a lav, but with no clothing noise issues, and great protection from wind noise. So I have started using it for casual interview audio too, with very good results.Unfortunately and for no clear reason the included lav mic simply stopped working after about 2 weeks. One call to the company was all it took to get a replacement sent out, which arrived 3 days later (and of course I was able to use one of my standard Lavs with the Sound Shark in the interim). They were very surprised to hear about the mic failure and seemed genuinely interested in getting the unit back to find the cause. They seem to truly care about customer satisfaction, and were very easy to work with. Based on all of this I can highly recommend both the product and the company. Five stars even with the mic issue.

It's a better product than the cheap toy parabolic mics, but not worth the price that's on it.

I've only done a few recordings with the Sound Shark so far (bird songs, ambient sounds) and am very satisfied. I do not do a lot of video, but I like to add sound tracks to slide shows, and this is perfect for my needs. This will be a lot of fun to play with. Also, I had a pretty minor issue with shipping damage, and their customer service could not have been better.

If you are looking for a durable mic in the field, that cuts out the wind, reduces voices and other distractions from the sides and behind you, this is money well spent folks. There are cheaper mics out there, but trust me when I tell you, you get what you pay for and the little extra you spend on this mic will pay dividends down the line.I bought Rode mics before this and was so bummed out by how much noise it was picking up from the camera, me and anyone behind me. The Shark does such a great job at cutting out the bad and focusing on the good. The mic truly blows me away when I'm in the field with kids screaming, outside in the wind, etc., yet somehow, I get back to the studio and it all sounds great.I now own 4 of them and I have a team of photographers using them almost daily. None of them have broke and all of them are working as good as the day I bought them. We video everything from interviews with soft spoken children outdoors to giant panoramic's of 400 kids screaming the name of their school.If you are looking for great audio in the field, do yourself a favor and just invest a few bucks into a quality product. Skip what I did and don't waste your money buying cheap equipment trying to save a buck. Just buy the best you can afford and know you have a quality product.

It was a pleasure to meet you at Photo Plus Expo and personally express my excitement and gratitude to you for your Sound Shark. I have to say Sound Shark is truly an incredible audio capturing device. I currently work with young children who make short films as well as shoot my own films and in many instances I have used the Sound Shark on a monopod and attached to an external recorder instead of a boom mike on a boom pole to capture audio. It is especially useful in tight shooting spaces where capturing audio with a boom mike would be impossible or at times when the crew is only one person-me and I don't have a dedicated boom operator. It is also much easier for my students to use when capturing audio for their films as they are too young, physically, and inexperienced to be able to use a boom mike/pole configuration. Both my students and I love working with Sound Shark!Thank you for inventing Sound Shark!!!

The Sound Shark is perfect for independent film makers, hybrid photographers, videographers, or really anybody that just wants great sound from a distance. I've used the Sound Shark in a variety of scenarios from a baseball game, corporate marketing video, clinical videos (medical), studio TV interviews, and even a 6 week travel show production around Europe. This is the one microphone we always had regardless of the shot list because it can be used to capture great ambient audio for B-Roll or be set up in a pinch for an impromptu street interview when a lav mic isn't available. It has survived multiple encounters with the TSA, baggage handlers, and all weather conditions. I'll be posting some videos if Amazon lets me, but if not I've got some more in depth reviews on the Sound Shark website as well.

Works great. Bought this for my GoPro Hero 6 Black, added the GoPro 3.5mm audio adapter (part# AAMIC-001) to record my kids sporting events like soccer and basketball games. Set GoPro audio to Standard Mic+ (adds 20 decibels). Perfect for soccer fields, or basketball courts. Works great!!
