Kirkland Signature Protein bar energy variety pack, 20 Count

Oh boy, where do I even begin with these Kirkland signature protein bars? Let me just say that my taste buds are doing the macarena right now! First off, the texture is just right. It's chewy but not too much, and it's not like those other protein bars that taste like you're biting into gravel. These bars are softer than a baby's bottom and they are packed with flavor. Speaking of flavors, have you tried the chocolate brownie one? I don't even know how they did it, but it tastes like a legit brownie. I'm convinced there are tiny little chocolate fairies working tirelessly in the Kirkland factory to make these bars extra delicious. And let's not forget about the peanut butter flavor. It's like eating a spoonful of creamy peanut butter, minus the weird looks from your coworkers. Trust me, I've been there. But the best part? These bars have a jaw-dropping 21 grams of protein. That's more than enough to power through a workout or just power nap on your couch, whichever you prefer. Overall, these Kirkland signature protein bars deserve all five stars and a standing ovation. I just hope they don't raise the price because I might have to sell my soul to pay for them.

I just began using protein bars because of a low serum protein. There are plenty of brands to try and many have a rather distasteful aftertaste. Kirtland’s is better than most, but their bar texture is not the easiest to eat: chewy, hard, mud and grainy! But the taste is much better with no aftertaste. My least favorite is their Chocolate chip cookie dough: Quest makes a better bar in that category. However, Kirtland’s are my first choice if I run out and are a decent price at Costco. The one thing that became a problem with protein bars in general was constipation.

Sometimes they come super fresh sometimes they come disgusting and hard like rocks. My fiancé and son love these so we keep them stocked up and since Costco for some awful reason changed their formula again for these and made them not so keto friendly (10 net carbs in their new ones from3/4. lots of sugar) if you’re eating for the protein fine but keto get them here before they end up getting the new ones in as you may not get more like this unless they change back. We got the new from Costco and they do not like them half as much and it’s become a chore for them to eat.

This tasted far different than most comparable protein bars. There was a graininess that was not expected and the flavor tasted like whatever syrup or powder or such was used was not fully mixed into the bars. But on the whole, it was a wonderful value (was about $25 when I bought it) for the amount of protein. It should be slightly heated before eating, though. I usually have coffee at lunch/snack time so I set the partially unwrapped bar over my mug and let the steam from the coffee heat the bar for a few minutes. The bar ends up being a somewhat tacky consistency (tootsie roll-like) and takes a bit of chewing. There is a bit of an overly sweetened flavor, particularly with the chocolate, but not unlike chocolate ice cream. There is definitely a coco flavor but it's much more like bittersweet chocolate. The cookie dough flavor is kind of variable but has much less flavor of any kind. However, again, for the value these are excellent for the macros, for keeping full, for carrying around throughout the day and for something that will keep you full and content after a workout or at midday.

These protein bars are the only ones that don't give me gas. If you are embarrassed about passing gas while doing sit-ups in the gym, these are the perfect protein bar. They taste good, too, except for the peanut butter ones. I love peanut butter, but those don't taste great. The price is inflated. It is cheaper to purchase these from Costco, but they don't ship overseas. I have had an issue on occasion where the inside plastic film of the wrapper separated from the foil and stuck to the bar. The first time this happened I didn't notice until I had eaten three quarters of the bar. Let's just say that the plastic film didn't pass well. A few other times that happened I simply peeled the plastic film from the bar. Buy these at COSTCO if you can and save yourself about $10 a box.

Beware of major change in Carb Content on these bars if you are following a Keto Diet! I have enjoyed these protein bars for the past year because they were very low in carb, 3 to 4 per bar making them suitable for a Keto Diet. I have purchased them at Costco and on Amazon. My most recent purchase from Amazon arrived yesterday and right on the front of the box is a red banner alerting you to look at new nutritional facts. They more than tripled the Carbohydrates in these bars by adding sugar making them not a good choice for Keto Diets. I would also add that the picture of the box on the Amazon website does not show the new packaging with the red banner down the side alerting the customer of the change in nutrition. I was surprised and disappointed when I opened the shipment from Amazon. When I went to return them it said no returns allowed. I contacted Amazon and they were fair in refunding me the purchase price but could not accept the product back even though I had not opened either box. So disappointed in Kirkland for changing their product content and don't think it was a wise decision as there are a lot of people benefitting from a Keto lifestyle and it is not that easy to find very low carb protein bars that are also good tasting. They should update any pictures of their product on online sellers like Amazon to accurately reflect their new product so others won't purchase it thinking they are getting a low carb protein bar.

I discovered these bars by accident. I like all the flavors except the cookies and cream, which is okay, but not my favorite. I like the taste and texture of these bars, their protein and fiber ratio to calorie content, and their satiation effect. The price is also much more reasonable than Quest bars. I eat 2 of them for breakfast occasionally, and often to supplement one of the other meals. As long as the price does not increase, these will be my go to food supplement.

Forget the peanut butter ones or the cookies and cream flavor. The chocolate chip cookie dough and chocolate brownie flavors are the best ones. They're my favorite protein bars in general - not just out of the brands sold at Costco. They help me reach my protein goals, and they stave off hunger for a few hours. I don't have a Costco nearby anymore, so I was pleased to see I could get these on Amazon with Prime free delivery.
