Good-quality conpoy prized for its umami flavor
These are good-quality conpoy harvested from Hokkaido, Japan. Conpoy is a type of dried scallop used in Cantonese cuisine and considered a premium ingredient for its amazing umami flavor. These have the marine, pungent smell as expected, and are about the diameter of a nickel in its dried form. There are many Cantonese dishes an soups that call for the use of conpoy as an ingredient. It needs to be soaked in water for at least 30 minutes before cooking. You only need a few thanks to the strong taste. The easiest, popular dish is probably conpoy congee, which would showcase the marine-based umami flavor of the conpoy in otherwise plain old porridge. Conpoy is also used in preparing XO sauce, which borrows its umami taste as well. This comes in a resealable plastic bag. There is a little over 50 whole conpoy in it. The price is pretty decent since it is a premium ingredient. Mine has a best before date of June 2022. It is strongly recommended to put it in the freezer immediately for freshness upon receipt of the product. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this product. The quality is great and the price is pretty reasonable.

Weak flavor, seller sells out of date stock
I received a package with an expiration date of June 22, I figured since these were dried, they would still provide good flavor. I dried soaking them and they aren't nearly are strong as they should be. Honestly, these aren't a good product at this price.

Haven't tried these yet
But I intend to. I found a simple recipe online that is the Hokkaido that gets soaked in water and the water is saved to mix with white rice. I will be trying that recipe soon.

Not a good seafood item
I'm not even sure what this seafood is supposed to be.. maybe like a scallop?I tried boiling, frying.. you name it.Always came out stringy and very little taste. And it leaves a very odious fish smell in your kitchen.I'd stay away from this item.

Delicious Umami Bombs - Great for Asian Style Soups, Sauces, Congee, and Other Recipes
The XLSEAFOOD Sun-Dried Hokkaido Conpoy is a unique and delicious ingredient to add to your Asian-style soups, congees, fried rice, sauce, and other recipes. For those who have never tried dried conpoy before, these are little umami bombs that require some prep before use. This is the stuff that gives XO Sauce its salty burst of seafood flavor. The flavor of the conpoy is very pungent, with strong notes of seafood and reminiscent of certain salt-cured meats. A small amount goes a long way in terms of flavor, and about 30 grams of scallop was more than enough to add tons of flavor to my 10 cup pot of congee. The XLSEAFOOD Size 100 conpoy is slightly smaller than a quarter but has a rich strong flavor that worked perfectly in my congee. The scallops were dried well with no sand or debris in the bag, and the flavor was delicious. I also got to try the smaller-sized 180 conpoy and its flavor was very similar, but you get slightly smaller threads of scallop in your recipes which results in more subtle bites of flavor. The scallops were very fresh and tasted great. It's not written on the bag, but if you want to keep these fresh, it is recommended to refrigerate or store these in the freezer to help maintain freshness and flavor. Overall, if you're looking for a good quality conpoy, this is a great option to consider.

Nice Umami
Conpoys are dried scallops that are used in many “wet/liquid” dishes to add umami. I specifically got these to try in my seafood congee and seafood egg drop soup. These conpoy added a depth of additional flavor to both dishes I tried them in. Size wise, these size #100 ones are about the size of a nickel. When compared to others I’ve purchased from my local Chinatown, these are in the middle range, they're not too big or too small. They provide a good bite of flavor without having to add a lot of them to the dish. These conpoy are high quality and have been cleaned really well, I didn’t see any sort of sand in the bag. Before using these I would recommend doing a quick rinse and then soaking them in clean water for 30 minutes to an hour depending on what dish you’re planning to use them in. This product is one where a little goes a long way, you definitely don’t want to over salt your dish. To prolong the freshness, I ended up splitting my bag in half and placing some in the fridge and the other half in the freezer.

Intense, sweet and savory
These XLSEAFOOD Sun Dried Hokkaido Conpoy needed about an hour in the water before they were ready to be consumed. The size was good, not as big as I was hoping but not too small either. When it comes to taste, they were full of flavor and brought out umami to the dishes. They were rich, intense but also very savory all at the same time. I would get this brand again.

Exquisite flavor
This is basically dried scallops. They are inherently salty and are filled with seafood flavors. This is heavily coveted in Asian cuisine. I don't know what is grade AAAA but it must mean awesome because it's really delicious. I soaked it in water overnight before using it in my dishes. I don't throw the water it was soaked in because that itself is also filled with flavor. I have tried adding this to vegetable dish and also to soups with great success. I have also cooked chicken with this and it tastes heavenly. Just one or two piece of this at a time is enough to give each dish plenty of flavor. This is an absolute gem of an ingredient.
