Absolutely Great -- WORKS!
Had to wait a bit before writing the review to see how this works, but it is really a winner! Be sure to read the directions and follow them to the tea and the trainer works like a charm! I have had a problem with my small dog barking when other dogs approach or are around or when visitors come over. I did follow the introductions to the product and it was amazing how well the dogs listen. Do NOT use all the time or to scare the dog. The dogs do catch on in less than 3 minutes when you follow the instructions. I used it once when visitors came in after the dog barked to let me know someone was coming. Then when I had enough barking I shook the trainer and repeated, "No bark" and the dog immediately calmed down. Now when visitors come over, I let him bark a few time to warn us then I repeat "No bark" and it works - dog stops and calms down. We have two dogs and one is very sensitive to the sound. The other is also sensitive, but it took a repeat lesson with the other dog and after two incidents of shaking the trainer she was also trained. It is great for any problem areas that you may have. I did also have a problem with our dogs when walking and other dogs in neighborhood would bark at us as we passed their house causing our dogs to bark and carry on also. While on the walk, I had the trainer in my pocket and shook it once. Immediately our dogs calmed down. Then I noticed that our one dog was very hesitant about going for a walk for a few days. One day on a walk we again encountered the neighborhood dogs that started barking and all I had to repeat was "No bark" and our dogs did not bark. I verbally rewarded the dogs and also gave a treat after we passed the house and they were calm. I have been working on this situation for almost 4 years and could not believe this worked so well in such a short time! I may have to use it once in awhile as a reminder if necessary and I keep it by the door just in case. I recommend this product, but be sure to follow the instructions and read the pamphlet that comes with the product. It has made our life much easier!

Probably works great but too loud for my human ears; would rather have my dog bark
Its easy to use and great value for what it is but noise it emits is so hurtful to my own ears id rather listen to my dog bark. Its basically a plastic container with "rocks" on the inside. The concept is when you shake it, it is so loud and annoying your dog will stop barking to make the noise stop but I was only able to get one shake out of it before I wanted to never touch it again. It hurt my ears too bad to even think about trying to shake it again.

Maybe not
Intriguing idea but we did not have the best results—but may be operator error. You could put some dried orzo pasta in a jar and get the same sound. But again…could be us!

It's very helpful but I get mixed results
Over the last several years it seems like I have become somewhat of an amateur dog-trainer. I work with 6-7 doggies on a regular basis. I am a big proponent of clicker training and use it almost exclusively. The only problem that I have with it is that, although it is great for reinforcing positive behavior, it's not always successful--at least for me--when trying to curtail negative behavior. The shake trainer operates on a similar principle as clicker-training so I thought that I would give it a shot. The conditioning portion of this training program is extremely simple. However, that is where I ran into some problems. The first two dogs (a Yorkie and a Miniature Blue Heeler) took to it right away but my friend's smooth-coat Dachshund was very frightened by the shaker and I could not continue working with her. Whenever I pick it up now she runs away and hides. The next dog that I tried to work with was a large, kind of wild behaving, pit bull mix named Bowzer. I have worked with him using clicker trainer just a little and I thought that he would be a good prospect for the Shaker. When I first shook it he tore out and hid behind some bushes. Although he has known me for quite a while he suddenly became afraid of me and it took a while for him to get over it. However, his "sister" is a yellow Lab mix and it worked perfectly on her.Beyond the initial conditioning I have found to Shaker system to be very effective when combined with consistent and firm vocal commands. I use it mostly for stopping the dogs from barking at strangers and other passersby and it has been very effective. I will continue using it and I will recommend it to others.

Don’t hesitate to try this!!!
This worked immediately after one use. Coco no longer barks when people come in the house. All I have to do is pick up the shaker and he stops. Oh, I wish I had known about this sooner.

Not happy at all
It's stupid. Our puppy got used to the sound after the first few uses and she no longer paid it any attention. You can make one of these with an empty soup can and some pennies. Same sound. Wish I hadn't wasted my money. They only reason I didn't send it back is because it was misplaced for a while and then it seemed like a waste of time and money.

Best Training Device I Have Used
I don't usually write reviews, but I highly recommend this shaker to help train your dog. My 7 yearly cockapoo likes to run to the front door and bark at everyone who walks by. He also can't go up our stairs, so he growls and tries to grab the cuffs of anyone doing so. AFTER FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS WITH THE SHAKE TRAINER, I had to only use it a couple of times to stop him from both activities. He'll still go to the door and stairs, but all I have to do is say "no" and he comes back to me. I have yet to try it on our walks when he gets too excited around other dogs.

Came defective
My MIL had one of these, and it seemed helpful with overly protective dog who bites anyone too close to my MIL. Her makes a noise when shaken, and it startles the dog out of its intense focus on biting. I bought this one so I could enter the house armed and protecting myself so I would not be bitten upon entering the house and hugging my MIL. I felt relief when it arrived, but that was quickly replaced with disappointment as I realized the silly thing did not make a sound when shaken. It is supposed to have some metal balls in it to shake. Mine did not have anything in it. I would like another one that is actually assembled correctly. Arg!
