Really good for the price
I am new to the whole digital TV thing this year but when I looked around my house I have found several TVs not hooked up to cable but still in very good condition. I was not interested in getting the cable company to charge me for each and every box to hook up each TV so I invested blindly in this DTV box. First you would need to get an over the air indoor/outdoor HD Digital antanna which actually costed me more than the DTV but together they worked. The remote is small but it works as a universal with your TV and comes with other features like signal strengh so you can position that antanna. I live in Long Island NY and I was able to pick up almost 32 channals immediately. The picture and sound is so clear my wife thought it was the dish we use to have. I told her that's free TV! Now I want to use my government coupons to get another couple of DTVs to hook up the rest of the house and maybe even cut down the cable to one TV in the house and save some money. Please be aware that I think only one antanna works per TV so that could be a hidden expense if you want to get rid of cable. But so far I am happy this experiment has worked out so well.

Antenna TV is the most affordable price.
This works great. I don't watch any cable tv. Don't need all these gross movies. Cable may offer 1,083 shows to watch but I can only watch one at a time. This gives me all the shows I need. Sure the bells and whistles are all that....but I also drive a 30 year old truck and split wood.

Very happy with my converter box
I couldn't be happier. My tv looks like digital quality and gets a few more channels. My converter box has neat menus and you can see a tv guide for each of the channels to find out what's on for the next few shows. There were two issues that I had, but they were minor. The first issue was that the install instructions were incorrect. My instructions: (tv on, converter box on, battery in remote, tv hooked to converter box, antenna hooked up to converter box... that part is correct in the instructions...) Go to channel 3 using the controls for your television (NOT the converter box.) After that, hit the menu button on your remote control. Choose the first options from therein and it should automatically set up your channels. The second issue was the converter box requires a remote control. What if your battery runs out right before your favorite show? Also, the battery is included. The setup was easy and I am very happy with mine. I tried to use a regular antenna to improve the signal and it seems to work okay. I read other Amazon reviews that say you don't necessarily need a HD antenna. However, I am thinking of purchasing another antenna because my reception isn't stellar and it wasn't that great before I switched to digital TV. With digital you seem to either get an extremely clear picture or you get scrambled eggs: there is very little median between clear signal and trash.I am very pleased with my switch to digital, and I am happy with the converter box that I chose. Don't wait. Buy it as soon as you can.

Solid equipment and an incredible seller.
This is the unit to get if you need a digital TV converter. I'm very old school, using a 32" Sony Standard def TV, along with Directv, a Roku box and now this Insignia NS-DXA1. Simply put, it does what it's supposed to do.The unit is smaller than I expected it to be...a good thing as far as I'm concerned. It picked up close to a hundred stations here in "Northern Los Angeles", and I only had to move the antenna once. It was also simple to get rid of the stations I didn't want with a simple lockout procedure. That did require entering and re-entering a password several times, which is the only small complaint I have.I purchased it through Amazon from Garage Sale Everyday. I would happily purchase anything from this seller. The customer service was definitely five star. I didn't expect to "love" the unit, but I certainly like it enough to give it a four star rating. It's another step on the road to cord cutting for me.

Bad product
It did not work out of the box. Do not order this product.

This one works!
This is the only conversion box that actually works - and I've tried quite a few! Even distant stations beyond the promised 30-40 miles come in clear. Now, of course, it's winter so it might not work as well when leaves are on the trees.

Absolutely Fantastic
This is a great purchase. Not only is the price the best I could find. It was ridiculously easy to set up and my television is over 15 years old. Nothing fancy at all. It had a very poor snowy picture with rabbit ears. We hardly ever watched it, I just had it in the spare bedroom and would turn it on when I was dressing. So when I got the insignia, I was worried my TV would be too old to work with my new purchase. Low and behold it worked. It was easy to set up. It offers you a better and a good way to set it up. My TV could only accommodate the good way. But it works like a dream. And don't think you have to get some fancy rabbit ears. You don't!! I have a set that is equally as old from Radio Shack and my picture is perfect! Sharp, clear, no snow. Like I was watching my cable. I love it!And we get 16 channels. Before I could sort of make out one local channel. now 16! perfectly beautifully clear channels. Amazing.Don't hesitate, I wish I would have done this 15 years ago.

Insignia NS-DA1 Digital to Analog TV Converter Box
This is the best of 3 different brands of converter boxes I've owned. The first was Apex. It never received two channels I thought it should receive. After it was out of warranty the RF, (coaxial connection), stopped working. It lasted a year and a half then stopped working totally. Next one I got was a Coby. The remote on the Coby had to be pointed directly at the box to use, but it got the two channels the Apex didn't get but I lost three other channels! So I immediately returned that to the brick & mortar store purchased at. I saw This particular Insignia brand on Amazon, it had very good reviews but was $110. Bought one used from someone through Amazon for $47 with shipping. As soon as I set it up and programmed it I found with a little adjustment with my indoor Terk antenna I got all the channels that the previous two boxes only received some of, and the remote has more features like zoom and different aspect ratios amongst others and doesn't have to be pointed directly at the box to work. The only down side is the program listings can only be seen for the channel that it's tuned to, that was the only good thing about the Apex, you could scroll through a program guide that showed all of the channels. I bought mine used but if it lasts a year I'll be happy. I'm getting a new tv that will have it's own digital converter built in but I have a Tivo and it needs it's own tuner/converter box, plus I feed streaming via the computer to the tv so no more cable bills! I hope when this insignia stops working I can find another as good that won't cost an arm & a leg.
