After measuring the pole to be replaced I cut one of the sections with a jigsaw and sanded down the rough end. The pole works as intended after the modifications were made. Its not as light as I would have liked but I still have a few leftover sections should I ever need a repair. The goal was to replace all of the fiber glass poles that came with the tent to aluminum and it worked and now the packed weight of the tents minimally lighter but possibly more sturdy.
