First, it takes time for each company to make their version of the cards (excluding the 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION) & get them out to distribution, laughing all the way to the bank for the people paying twice the cost of MSRP for the 1st version of the GTX 1080 (and who knows, nVidia could be involved with the release of "non-reference" cards by each company since they are only making the FOUNDERS EDITION to my knowledge). Second, they usually will give you a date so that if they are able to release the multiple iterations past the first-born (again, the 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION) EARLIER than that, then they will have a more positive image for the consumer. In addition to purchasing the GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION directly from the NVIDIA Store, the 6 companies currently selling their version of the same card are Asus, Zotac, EVGA, Gigabyte, PNY, and MSI. Just like EVGA, they will all have their custom variations (EVGA has 4 excluding the FOUNDERS EDITION). Also keep in-mind that the GTX 1070 is right around the corner with an MSRP of $450, so the same thing will happen with the 1070 that is already underway with the 1080.
