Because it's soft and flexible (feels very similar to a heavier interfacing) it's less cumbersome than copying the pattern onto actual paper (such as wrapping paper) and much easier than dealing with tissue. This stuff is strong, though when I unpicked my basting stitches I managed to rip it, but I am going to blame that on my overzealous seam ripper. Not only is it transparent enough to see where you are placing your pattern but it is almost impossible to tear up and will last a long time. I make welder's caps and have used the patterns I made from this over hundreds of times and you can barely see the pin holes. I love this material. I hope this helps. Why hasn't this discrepancy been corrected on the ad yet? **Q: Can this be sewn onto the fabric for quilts then torn away?** A: I've never done that, but have had it tear, when under too much "stress", so I would think it would work for that. You can actually sew up a garment in it, before using expensive fabric, but it will tear, unlike that fabric you would use, so again, I think it would work for you. **Q: Does this paper roll up at the ends or does it lay flat?** A: It comes in a long roll so the front and back end will probably curl a little. Tissue paper patterns do not take to tape, pinning or marking very well. They are extremely fragile. Swedish Tracing Paper is the perfect material for tracing paper sewing patterns. When I first started tracing tissue paper sewing patterns I thought Parchment Paper would be my best option. But it turned out that Parchment paper was difficult to tape, keep flat and even make marks on with marker or pen. Swedish Tracing paper is able to be ironed, written on, cut, and taped. It’s durable enough to stand up to all of these functions yet light enough to see through and be used again and again.
