I used to rent these books from the local library when I was a kid. It was my dream to own the entire collection one day and slowly i am getting the entire asterix series. This one is a real gem in the collection. There is cauldron and asterix is charged to fill it up with money as his honor depends upon it. Well , asterisk and obleix may be great at bashing up Romans but making vast sums of money in a short time is a skill beyond them. Hilarity ensues when all their plots go haywire. There are scheming villains, jokes, Romans and plenty of fighting. This book is one of the best in the series.

What good are gold coins when thats all you have left to eat?

"You can't take it with you"..."money can't buy happiness" and other old sayings spring to mind when you read this gently amusing Asterix adventure- a lesson on avarice and how the love of money warps peoples lives and morals. Once again the close bonds of community triumph over the alienation of the city, with its dishonesty and empty chasing after profit. All life is here, in these timeless classics penned by Uderzo. The artistry is especially superb- Goscinny is a genius at facial expressions, using the simplest of pencil-strokes. His mastery is obvious down to even the changing colors of the flagstones at different times of day, the pastel shades of the sky indicating the hour and eliciting mood.
