great book for deterring hitting in school.
I brought this book for my 5 year old son who has behaviour problems. He is going through a phase of hitting multiple people a day. Yesterday we received the book and read it together today in the morning before school. he seemed really into the book and carried on listing the good things you use your hands for all the way to school. today was the first day all week that he wasn't violent in school, could it be a coincidence? sure but he was still talking about the book when I picked him up. we have read again before bed and will read it every night before bed. the book is bright and colourful catching the childs attention and the illustrations are very good. I would recommend this book 100%

Very useful and positive
Talking about hitting to a young child is not very easy. I was just used to say to my son (almost 3), stop it with no explanations. Thanks to this book, I've got clear words. After saying stop, I add "Don't forget that hands are for..." and I repeat what is in the book. There's not a lot of words, but they are very clear for a young child and my son even asks questions after or try to find another way to use his hands.I was a little reluctant because of the title. I try to give him a positive education and the title is a negative sentence, but inside the book everything is positive so the messages are clearer.

Language repetitive so easy for him to pick up
Used for my ASD Son to learn him not to hit. Language repetitive so easy for him to pick up. After a meltdown I say 'hands are...' he will say 'not for hitting' so he understood quickly with this book.Although he still hits he's getting the understanding that it is wrong and its more about his language than stopping the behaviour because he still feels anger very strongly and finds it difficult to stop in that instance but later when the anger has subsided he can think about what he's done and say sorry and we can revisit it in his language now. So its a long process putting the dots together but the book has got us on the right path. School are also using the phrasing in this book also to help with the issue. Also the 'keeping safe' phrase I use when out and about and holding hands together.

Very good educational book
Bought this book after being at a loss with my 4 year old whom kept using his hands to hurt his older brother. We have read the story several nights in a row and after being constantly reminded of what his hands are for I think we finally had a break through! So couldn't recommend it any more! Great easy pictures and text for little ones to understand and refer to.

It works
This book helped my grandson to learn that hands are for more than hitting. We read the book twice in one go. His face upon reading it upon the recognition that what he had been doing to me was wrong alone was worth it. A really good teaching vessel for when children need to actually see than hear

Positive and helpful
Love this book. We were having some hitting issues at nursery so got this book and it has really helped. Lots of positive things that hands are for and some useful tips for parents too. My son loves the story and it’s a great way of reminding him without sounding like nagging/lecturing/telling off. Perfect for toddlers.

Book a bit too brief - probably helpful though.
Got this book for our 5 year old that used to have a bad temper and repeatedly hit his older sister. To be honest I was a bit disappointed by the volume of the text inside the book - it's only a couple of sentences. Not the most interesting book for the little one and he got bored of it really really fast (after reading it once/day for 3 days). Now I can't really say if the book is working. He still gets quite violent sometimes, yet I am having him read me the book whenever that happens. So far he seems to have acquired an understanding that he's using his hands the wrong way. Time will tell.
