Even Better Than We Thought
I spent a good bit of time researching electric kettles before purchasing this one. After reading a lot of reviews here at Amazon, I decided I didn't want a plastic kettle. I was also leery of the metal ones because they get so hot. I found one metal one I decided to purchase, and it was no longer available. When I searched on electric kettles again, this one had been added. Many of the reviews were positive, and we liked the idea of boiling in glass, so we decided to give it a try. It's been in daily use for almost 20 months now, multiple times on some days, and we couldn't be more pleased. It heats the water incredibly quickly. The auto shut off is a great safety feature, and I like the soft base which protects your counter when using the carafe away from the base. It's easy to clean, and it looks nice. We've recommended it to several friends, and they are all happy with their purchases. One truth in advertising fact - the "polished chrome" is really plastic, but that doesn't detract from the usability of this great kettle. Great value, durable item, well worth the money. If ours breaks, we will replace it with another just like it - we like it that much.

This is the perfect kettle for me
This is my second purchase of this same kettle since I love it so much - the previous one is now with a family member who needed one. It is a great value for the price and quality and is a nice design. The auto shut-off is a great feature, it works well and I like that I can rely on it if I step away. It heats up quickly and is a nice weight even when filled to capacity with water. I would obviously purchase this kettle again should the need arise. The product arrived timely and well packaged and I would work with this seller again.

Stopped Heating After a Short Time — No Way to Contact Seller for Support
I really liked this Capresso water kettle when I first bought it. It looked sleek, heated water quickly, and was simple to use — the kind of appliance you rely on every day. Unfortunately, it recently stopped heating even though the power light still turns on, and the water stays completely cold. I checked the outlet and base, and everything else works fine, so it seems like the heating element failed. What’s even more disappointing is that there’s no way to contact the seller or manufacturer through Amazon for support or warranty information. For a well-known brand and pricey unit, I expected the kettle to last more than 1 year and to have some kind of customer service option available. It’s a great design, but the lack of durability and support makes it hard to recommend.

Great teapot
I recently purchased this teapot after viewing all of the others available on Amazon and reading all of the reviews. I was very happy with this purchase. This Capresso not only looks really cool, it heats up twice as fast as my old kettle, and it actually holds more. I like that this one has a glass kettle and a covered heating element. The little blue light on the handle is nice, but I don't notice it much. Yes, it would be nice to have the cup and ounce lines on the side of the pot rather than on the back by the handle, but I don't really use them much. I just "eye" it. It also has no "ding" when the water boils, which was kind of nice on my old one, but not really necessary. Unfortunately, after one month of use, the kettle just stopped working. I could not longer turn it on. I called the company and after a long wait to the customer service line, I left a message on their machine. They called me back the same day and had me send the machine back to the company to either fix or replace. I received a new machine within 2 weeks. I was surprised by the good service. My new machine has been working well since it was replaced.

Best Water Kettle!
I love this water kettle- my first one started to be a little finicky after 5 years of regular use, so I bought an exact replacement. I really love the glass- its easy to see how much water there is, how clean it is, and no metal or plastic taste changes the water. The kettle heats up very quickly, which is the other reason I come back to this one. The design of having the heating element in the water rather than just the flat bottom really speeds it up (my parents had a Hamilton Beach kettle with a flat bottom, and they eventually replaced it with one of these). I only used filtered water in the pot (via a faucet mounted filter) and descale it as needed by heating up vinegar inside. Works like a charm and is super fast and easy. I usually will heat and empty another full pot of water before I'm ready to use it again. Vinegar-tea is not something I want to ever try. If you are rough with it or have extremely heavy use, well- you get out of it what you put into it. Its designed (and priced) to be replaced every few years, and that window can shorten if its not treated right or you just need to use it a lot more. Its unobtrusive on my very small countertop, tucking nicely into a corner, and looking very attractive.

Buying my 4th one
My original 2006 review is below. There are helpful comments, including my own comment in 2010 (hinge broke, bought another one) and 2012 (hinge broke after 18 mo, bought another one). My current kettle's hinge just broke - so that one lasted almost exactly 3 years. This one had minor buckling of the silver foil on the lid (near the spout) and on the handle (I went to check, I never noticed it). I keep the glass and silver heating element clean and shiny with vinegar (as in the product manual). By the way, I've never had a problem with unpleasant taste or smell, and I've never had the heating element fail. I just looked around for another brand of glass water kettle that might bring me as much joy as this one does, and I can't find one. I think the hinge lasts longer if you know it is delicate, and pay attention not to open it too far. The foil on the lid lasts longer if you are careful to open the lid enough so that the steam isn't repeatedly flowing over it. In the end, this kettle is so beautiful on my counter that I will accept its limited lifespan (like a delicate wine glass). I'm surprised, though, that Capresso doesn't care about the repeated one-star reviews, many of which complain about the cheap plastic hinge and the peeling shiny lid. I give whomever designed this an A+++ (for beauty) and an F for durability. 2006 review: My biggest rave is the Amazon.com customer service. I fell in love with the look of this kettle and found the best price on Amazon.com (with free shipping!) When it arrived, it only worked if the kettle was oriented one way on the base -- when it boiled, the water dribbled on the cord. Called Capresso Cust Svc -- 1st person said, it's supposed to do that. After another week, it got worse. Capresso would replace it if I paid it's shipping back to them. Called Amazon.com, got another in the mail days later, post-paid shipping back the first one to them. Wow! This kettle works just fine. Very rapid boiling of water, no complaints about anything. To keep the glass and that silver dome shiny, you do need to do the vinegar thing every now and again. Couldn't be happier.

It is the best kettle we have ever used
This is our third instance of Capresso 259 kettle. It is the best kettle we have ever used, which is why it gets five stars. The large heating ball heats up the water fairly fast for a 110 VAC kettle. The clear glass is very nice. The fact you can wind up to power cord inside the base is very nice. The auto shutoff is very nice. However, it is not perfect. The reason we have had three of these is that the first one died shortly before the 1-year mark was was replaced under warranty. Also, on the second one, the plastic lid broke in two ways: one of the clips that holds it closed broke off (this had only a minor impact on functionality so we kept on using it for a couple of years after that), and the rounded dome cover with the little handle at the top separated from the lower plastic of the lid (I was able to glue it back down several times, so again, we kept on using it). In spite of the obviously cheap construction of the plastic portions of this kettle, I still give it five stars because its conception beats every other one we've tried. If Capresso wanted to make, say, an all-metal one that was more solid in construction but still had all the features of this one, then this one would be knocked down to maybe three stars, with the new fantasy one dislodging it from the five-star position.

Quality could be an issue
The first one of these I bought lasted well over 5, until the screws holding the top of the handle corroded and stripped out. I order a second one on February 7 from Amazon. It just died (October 2), 8 months later. It was used an average of twice a day. It does have a one year warranty, but I will need to ship it in at my expense before it gets evaluated and they replace it. I'm thinking by the time I ship a large glass container like this in (I don't have a box large enough to ship it) I'll be close to 50% the cost of a new one. It's great when it works. Heats water quickly. Not too bad to clean (I use Durgol, recommended by Capresso before they made their own descaler), but you do have to clean it frequently since its quite visible when the scale builds up. When its clean, it looks great sitting on the counter. My rating is based mostly on the durability and quality control. The lid on first one I owned never closed properly. It had the chrome cap, which started to flake off due to steam. I realize I owned the first one for over 5 years before it failed, but it failed due to a couple of screws stripping out. It was a shame to toss it out with all the electrical components still working, but the handle was falling off. Now this second one fails after 8 months, and based on other reviews, there's a decent chance their quality control has fallen off.

美しく頑丈
綺麗です。静かです。出来たのがわからないくらいです。 難をいえば経年劣化で下のゴム部分が何年か経つとどうだろうと言う懸念はありますが。満足してます。

Bad odour
Gorgeous to look at however, there is an odour (chemical) that will not disappear. I really don't feel it is safe to drink the water boiled in this kettle.

満タン 48oz(1.4l)で『8分58秒』です。
