The Ransom of Red Chief: And Other O. Henry Stories for Boys

Review of the Kindle edition
I docked this one star to point out that the transfer of the text to Kindle is done with only the minimal attention to formatting. There is no active table of contents and the titles of the stories are not at the head of the first page, they appear at the top of each page of that story, with no space between the last page of the previous story and the beginning of the next story. The other side of the coin is that there are, for sale, Kindle editions with just "The Ransom of Red Chief" for about the same price. This volume contains fifteen of O. Henry's stories, but the only "famous" one is "The Ransom..." But, you get 14 other stories, some of which are especially delightful, such as his parody of a Sherlock Holmes story entitled "The Adventures of Shamrock Jolnes." With a typical O. Henry ending, there is a surprise twist. As long as you get it on Windows 7 or a Kindle tablet, you should be able to search for the first page of each story. One of the annoyances of Kindle on Windows 8 is that most books are not searchable.

classic stories
O.Henry has the gift of story-telling; I would have liked the publisher to have presented a more readable copy. Although I was able to enjoy the stories and understand the original was used, it may encourage more readership if a clearer copy was used and if necessary to 'clean it up'.

...and I was not disappointed. I can't believe I hadn't read this before. A real treasure, and beautiful time capsule of historical American culture and dialogue. Very touching and humorous.

I am not sure what age boys would be appropriate for this book - possibly around 10 - depending on the maturity of the child.
