Best Racehorses of 2020 Volume 2 Paperback – 7 Mar. 2021

When Timeform announced the end of their Racehorses annuals, I was gutted to say the least; my usual build up to the start of the flat season would never be the same again. Today I have started to read Best Racehorses of 2020 Volume 1. Wow! This has all the pedigree details (and more) as well as comprehensive racing summaries of each group one winning horse from the last flat racing season, along with the author's insights regarding the prospects of the latest classic crop. Volume two covers other pattern winners and follows the same format. The two volumes provide a total of more than 1100 pages, including plenty of stats. As someone who loves flat racing, in particular the group races, this is far more than a Timeform substitute, it's classic material!

Anyone, who like me, is bereft at the loss of ‘Timeform’s Racehorses Annuals’, can at least to some extent fill the void by buying Sieglinde McGee’s ‘Best Racehorses of 2020 – Vol 1 and 2’. In my opinion, the breeding information is, if anything, superior to Timeform. It only needs results of Group Races for 2020 to make the publication perfect.

Gutted that Timeform have stopped doing the review books as they were magic . So I decided to do a bit of a review and came across this little beauty . I have no idea who Dr McGee is but I bow to your knowledge ! A real revelation of a book and superb reference point for the Best .I’m not going to big it up that much as this one needs to be “our little secret” . OK the price is a lot higher than most publications but the eye for detail and the focus of this book is worth the outlay and has taken time to research . Only this week a 20-1 winner in Ireland . DR McGee will be on my wish list for the years ahead if this one is anything to go on ( but listen here DR McGee - don’t price it any higher as I’ve had a week of bread of water ) . McGee in my day was an assistant to a magician . Obviously been promoted as this is Magic .

The author really put a lot of heart and detail into this book and as a HUGE fan of Horse Racing for over 50 years, it makes me happy to see that someone is doing these since Timeform decided to stop doing their Annuals of which I cherish.
