Great!
I fell in love with this saga from the very start, and this book made me fall in love even more! Maybe a little slow at the beginning, but definitely recomend it!

My favorite book in the series!
I will forever love Victoria Aveyard's writing style and her characters because omg I am sooooo attached to mare and let me just say reading that ending at 12am was not a good idea. I loved moving through Norta and the surrounding kingdoms, getting more depth to the scarlet guard, and more depth to the characters. Obviously Maven is top worst characters oat but it's easy and harder at the same time to read about him with the new info we get about him. It feels like we get closer to the characters too with the dual perspectives and every chapter was intriguing. I loved moving through the pacing in these books and even though I know I won't be able to handle it I can't wait for War Storm!!!

Broke my heart.
My heart hurts.Victoria Aveyard fueled my heart with hope only to rip it apart to pieces. Out of the three books, this one affected me the most. The beginning was certainly dragging but all of that is forgotten now. As I have said before, endings are Victoria's strongest suit. This one isn't as shocking as the others but it doesn't mean it's less heartbreaking. I understand. I completely understand. But it hurts just the same. One thing I loved about this book was how Victoria wrote her characters in a way that would make you feel for them. I finally understood why Maven is the way he is. I understood Mare and Cal's choices. Victoria didn't give us rose-colored glasses, she made us see through the mask. And as flawed and as selfish as they could be, she made us love them all the same. This book was equal parts emotion and action. It made me hold my breath in a lot of scenes. But even though I went into this for the thrill and excitement, surprisingly, my favorite scenes were the ones that touched my heart.
