At $40/pair, 56% off, in an el Nino Winter-it’s a HUGE win all day long
SCC Peerless 0232105 Auto-Trac Light Truck/SUV Tire Traction Chain - 2 Count (Pack of 1) INITIAL RATING: 5⭐️ (I have not yet used these in Winter weather) RATING LEGEND: 5⭐️ Let’sGo!! 4⭐️ Very good, I like it 3⭐️ Good, functions as advertised. 2⭐️ OK’ish, Uncertainty lingers 1⭐️ Definite No 4 Me REVIEW SUMMARY: SCC is known for a wide range of quality products. I purchased after careful review and relying on listing product images. I am an experienced Rud Grip 4x4 chain user with 15 years use in mountain communities including for snow plow operation. These SCC Peerless are rated light truck and SUV traction. However, there was no mention of 4WD vehicles applicability. At 3.8mm links I don’t expect these are 4x4 rugged meaning they’ll work on 4WD, but need to be treated more gently and lower speeds(max 19mph). If you’ve ever used diamond pattern tire chains you quickly realize they outperform all others. INITIAL FIT: Acquired for storm driving use only with 4WD Vehicle. Experientially, I’d advise the physical layout features an automatic ratcheting system that eliminates the need to adjust/tighten more than initial install. Nor must you move the vehicle 5/10 after installation to allow chains to center on the tire. Installation Note: for new users-the blue cable has two ends - a pin end and a pin-receiving end. With snow on the ground — NEVER feed the receiving end of the cable behind the tire, only send the pin end around back of tire base and to avoid snow being packed into the receiver opening (one less serious challenge during chain installation). Driving notes: Always avoid —> -rubbing chains against curbs and ice-pack snow mounds etc to preserve the ratchet mechanism integrity. Friendly Reminder: Warranty could be voided by improper installation!! I would highly recommend every person new to these first install them in good weather, say a minimum of 5 times and try it on every one of your four tires. That could sound silly until you learn: how to become comfortable with install including centering on tires plus perhaps mud flaps on your wheels could also interfere with installation. In doing this you’ll adapt and observe: 1. they’re not difficult to install, 2. There is a pattern you’ll quickly pick up on- send cable around base of tire, - bring pin end plus receiver end to center top of tire, -insert pin into receiver, - lift cable and center chain on front and back sides of your tire, - connect your ratcheting mechanism. Lastly be prepared if you’ve been driving and snow or slush packed up inside your wheels and then you chain up - you may need something like a tire iron to remove some of that pack prior to chaining up. Hope the above helps!! INITIAL FUNCTIONALITY: The manufacturer and/or seller primary performance use case is delivering quick, automatic centering during low-speed winter travel. Note: Can boost driving confidence to get you started in slick conditions- please never forget timely stopping is the highest concern. Chains may get folks with an heavy gas pedal foot and over-confidence into trouble. These nearly always get you moving, and moving faster, stopping safely w/o incident is nearly always speed-dependent. Also if you’re comparing chain kits that use an extended rubber lead and small hook at the end... My past experiences with this type ALWAYS ALWAYS ended with the rubber separating and rather quickly depending on conditions and use case. You cannot simply replace the rubber lead on the fly. AND when the rubber lead tears the chain behind it begins wildly slapping up against your tire, wheel or in some cases your fender. It’s actually maddening. INITIAL PRICE: $39.99 per pair, used like new. The cost provides a highly reasonable entry point for chaining four tires(never chain just two!) for use during seasonal road emergencies. INITIAL QUALITY: In real life—The actual alloy steel links are [noticeably] far smaller than the size scale viewed in product listing images. That’s not actually helpful to buyers. Their link size [ 3.8mm] should always be noted among sellers’ listing. At 3.8mm it explains max 19mph speed and it raises short to long term structural concerns if these are to be used on packed ice or snow. IMHO matching consumer product reviews I read report early breakage (2-3 uses(Likewise let’s be clear that others rated them highly)). Because of these thin components, against my backdrop of real life use case experiences, IMHO the overall build aligns closer to basic passenger car standards than it would ever applying them to 4WD 1/2 ton or 1 Ton pickup trucks. Only time will tell and I GREATLY appreciate SCC’s 1 year manufacturer warranty that I missed in my initial review. That’s likely manufacturer defects based on VALUE FOR MONEY: At $40/pair, 56% off, in an el Nino Winter-it’s a HUGE win all day long. - PRODUCT LISTING OVERVIEW - ~Worry-Free Self-Tightening Ratchets Provide Automatic Tightening And Centering ~Easy Installation And Removal In Minutes ~Do Not Exceed 30 Mph With These Chains On ~Diamond Pattern Cross Chain Provides A Smoother Ride And Superior Traction _______ AI BASED WARRANTY DETAILS RESULTS: SCC/Peerless traction tire chains carry a 1-year limited warranty covering defects in material and workmanship from the invoice date. ~Key Warranty Details & Terms~ • Coverage: Repair or replacement of the product at Peerless Chain's discretion. • Disclaimers: Peerless disclaims all implied warranties of merchantability and fitness, and excludes liability for injury, death, or consequential damages. • Speed & Usage Limits: The warranty is void if vehicle speeds exceed 30 mph (50 km/h), if manufacturer or install recommendations are ignored, or if the chains are fitted improperly. • Claim Process: • Written notice of the defect must be provided within 10 days of discovery. • The product must be returned prepaid with prior authorization within 10 days of authorization.

Super easy to use
Ordered 2 pairs of chains to have a total of 4 chains for AWD Kia Sorento with 235/65R17 size tires. Used them today on hard packed snow and ice, very steep logging road to ski area on West Coast of BC, chains are mandatory near the top. Size 0231805 Auto-Trac chains just fit our tires at the maximum expansion of the ratchet. The chains themselves seem rather wimpy, but they worked well. We did not need to put our vehicle into 4x4 mode, just drove in normal fashion, slowly. No problem going up or down very steep mountain logging road (unpaved gravel when there is no snow). Off and on as easy as it can get. Recommend using knee pads. Chains held up and performed well so far. I've included photo of the chains on our Kia, as well as the road, altho not the steepest part, but shows the snow.
