Best laptop stands hands down!
I have too many good things to say about these. This is the 5th one I've purchased because we keep getting them for new team members. No other stand compares. This is sturdy, super well designed so it's super stable. No assembly required, and I never have to worry about putting my computer on it. It's also great for putting papers under and has a nice cut out in the back for clean cable organization. Very awesome! Definitely worth getting. They last forever!

very simple, but won't let you down.
Summary: This is such a simple product that you might be wondering why my review is so long. The fact is I love getting products that work reliably and do their job, no matter how simple they are, and I love praising good products. The only drawback of this laptop stand is that it's not adjustable. And no, I don't work for Rain Design and I paid for this with money. Build Quality (10/10): This is made of solid aluminum. No plastic. It just feels really premium, and I'm sure it will last forever. I would probably need a sledgehammer to damage this in any way. Appearance (10/10): This thing just looks cool. It keeps your laptop at a healthy height for viewing the screen, and It especially looks good with MacBooks, and any laptops made of aluminum really. I have a giant Dell Inspiron made of aluminum and black plastic, and my roommate has a MacBook pro, and they both look great on the stand. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to make their desk look cleaner, cooler, and more ergonomic. Functionality (9/10): The only reason it's not a 10 is because it's not adjustable. However, given the simplistic nature of this product, I don't really mind. In my tests it cooled down my laptop fairly effectively. The hole in the back helps with cable management. There's some space under where the laptop goes that works well for storing small speakers, or anything you don't want to see on your desk. Any size laptop is completely stable when sitting on this stand, and the stand is completely stable on any surface. Like I said earlier, laptops sit at a healthy height on most desks. I usually just throw my laptop on the stand when I get home, instead of having it sit awkwardly on my desk, getting in the way of papers. Overall, I have really nothing bad to say about this stand. It's a little expensive, but it's worth every penny for the quality and build. If you don't feel the need to get a stand that you can adjust, nothing can really beat this product.

VERY HAPPY WITH MY DECISION TO BUY THIS STAND!!
I did my research on buying a stand for at least 2 weeks before making a decision. And, I have to say, I'm VERY happy that I purchased the mStand Laptop Stand. This solid stand works perfectly with my 15" brand new MacBookPro. It holds it securely in place, is well-made, and I can even carry the stand AND the laptop around from floor to floor together (thanks to that hole in the back of the stand) depending on where I want to use both! (Naturally, you have to be careful but I've done this often with no problems). It also looks great with the lapbook as it matches and is just a sleek, modern design -- they go together well, like a hand in a glove! I will be using this for my business and for personal use. So far, I'm loving it and have no complaints. I considered the swivel stand, but being the klutz that I am, I feared I'd hit the swivel and knock over a cup of coffee or create some other disaster. Also, I read reviews regarding the swivel option and many said that it turns VERY easily. Again, for someone like me, that's not a risk I'm willing to take, although for some, less klutzy people and for those who do not work alone, as I do, it could work - for sharing what is on the screen. I like the fact that the stand is VERY sturdy. Your laptop will NOT slip off at all. Right now, I have this on my bed and I'm even typing directly onto my laptop. (the swivel would NOT be a good option for that at all). I do have a wireless keyboard and mouse for my work, but for occasionally typing right onto it, it's perfect! After scouring the internet and reading MANY reviews, I have to say I am VERY happy with my decision and would highly recommend it as a safe method of securely raising your laptop to a better height for viewing and working on, either professionally or personally. Although the height is not adjustable, you can always adjust your seat if it's not at a perfect height or put the stand on something solid, like a large thick book to give it an extra 1 to 2 inches, if needed. When it is sitting on a standard table or desk height, the height works fine for me and I'm 5'5" tall. (This is as opposed to if you're sitting on a bed --- which in this case, I put the stand on a very thick large hardback book). As usual, Amazon delivered it to my eagerly waiting self in a timely manner. It was packed up well and a joy to open and use! Highly recommended!

As a software engineer, I really like this product!
At first I was little skeptical about this product even though I saw many good reviews about it. At least I was not thinking that it could work as a heat sink and help to reduce heat. But now I've been using it for days and all of my doubts went away. It is not a review that I put once I got the product, but actually I am writing this after I used the product for days. 1. First of all, it is very sturdy product. You can feel the build quality when you touch it. 2. I was scared that my laptop can slide away from on it but the rubbers on it really keep my MacBook Pro 15" safe and secure. It doesn't slide at all. You need to put good amount of force to move your mac around on it. This is really nice! 3. You can use your external keyboard and mouse since it will make some space on your desk. I like to organize my keyboard and mouse as how I feel comfortable with them and this stand is allowing me to do so. 4. It lifts the computer so that you can sit more ergonomically and work better. You don't have to bend your head down to see the monitor or keyboard. This is really great feeling when you spend too much time like me coding and reading. 5. At first I thought it was too small for a 15" laptop but when I got the product and use it, it was not that small. It is perfect fit for a 15" MacBook Pro. 6. It looks like a part of your MacBook and doesn't stand out too much. The color and material are a very nice fit if you like Mac designs. 7. It indeed works as a heat sink. Don't expect it to be an ice but it is usually quite cool because of its aluminum material and I see lower temperatures, which is great! 8. I can write a lot of good things about this product but I think I have written enough. You can test it yourself when you get it.

The best laptop support piece I've ever used, for multiple reasons.
Absolutely indispensable for me. I own about 8 of these and have them all over the house so that there is always one near at hand for my laptop. It helps to have small buckwheat cushions available, or a lap desk, to put on your lap when you use this. Of all the shapes, sizes, and designs of laptop risers - including the question 'is it better for the legs to be on the side, or for there to be a single bottom piece that rests on your legs' - this unit answers that question conclusively. This is the best design. - The bottom piece is just wide enough to balance and stay put properly, but not so wide as to bump into things on the right and the left. It doesn't stick forward all the way so that there is space for your hands, and so that the entire unit can angle forward a bit more if you want (including having the front edge actually come all the way down and touch your lap while you lie back on the couch!) - The lip that prevents the laptop from sliding off is tall enough to support your laptop, but smooth and unobtrusive and only fills up the middle section in order to avoid interfering at the sides. - The rubber pieces on the top surface are unobtrusive, feel good, and have never peeled off for me even after constant use for months on end, and they keep the laptop from sliding 100%. - The rubber feet on the bottom work - There is a convenient finger grip on the lip so that even with the laptop pressing down against the lip and covering the entire top face of the unit, you can still run your finger along the lip and find the center point easily so you know where the center of the unit is to pick up either your laptop or the unit with the right balance. - There's also a convenient finger-sized, but smooth, hole in the center of the top face and enough space underneath so that you can swoop your hand under, locate the underside hole by feel, and then use your finger in the hole and your hand to lift the entire unit up without risk of grabbing it or lifting it in the wrong place. - The entire thing is nicely weighted. - Finally, most importantly, the angle of the keyboard is perfect. At first, I thought that the lack of adjustable angle would be bad. But the fact is that the angle and height is already perfect for a table top, and when it's on your lap so that you might want a bit of a different angle, the base is set back enough and just small enough that you can easily and naturally shift its forward/backward angle right on your lap (especially if you use a small buckwheat cushion or laptop tray such as the Grifiti tray, which I use all the time). The best laptop riser I've ever used, bar none. Really helps work comfortably and easily. A solid piece of work. Five stars.

This is the ONE
I've gone through several stands over the last few years. I have a couch with a table to the side, and since I'm in IT and work at night a lot remotely on client systems, I keep my laptop running 24/7 and near me. So I've had a few stands for my various laptops that I've tried and used for a while, then replaced. I want something solid that I can just lean over and type on while it's in the stand, or something that's easy to get the laptop on and off of as I pull it to use on my lap. Since it's on a table, I also wanted some space for still being able to have some things on the table. And the space underneath this is perfect for one of my USB 3 external drives, my small logitech keyboard for my media center, and an LED control remote I keep by where I sit. Solid. VERY solid. I can type on this with no movement or bouncing of the laptop at all (15" retina macbook pro). It's easy to get on and off as well. The height is PERFECT for my needs and it looks good sitting here as well, whether the laptop is on it or off of it. They talk about the heat dissipation for the laptop but with the air between the laptop and the aluminum here, I'm not sure how much heat actually transfers, since it's already had to transfer off the laptop to the air to reach this in the first place. But there's no doubt it will absorb heat - we've had a week of 98 to 104 degree days here, and even when this was just in the back of the fed ex truck today for delivery, it got hot enough that when I opened it after taking it from the delivery person's hands, it was almost too hot to touch. Great looks, rock solid, a perfect choice for someone looking for a good laptop stand. Best I've ever had, and this one is definitely a keeper.

Used for one year, true tips here!
I write for a living. I use this stand with a MacBook Pro at the library. I have used it for over a year, more like a year and a half. Although there is a swivel model available, I'd not want it to swivel. If I was ever to work on a project with others and need a swivel, a small swivel round base, twenty bucks on Amazon, could be placed under the M-stand. LapWorks 12" Heavy Duty Swivel With Steel Ball Bearings for Indoor/Outdoor Use Or With Flat Panel Monitors and TV's I could also use it for plants, televisions, computer monitors at home, etc. I prefer that to a built-in swivel. I did knock one star off this review for the price. At forty-five clams, it's a little steep; when I bought mine quite a long time ago, the price was the same. Over time, one would hope the price would come down, but it does not. Although well-built, in aluminum, it doesn't have any moving parts, and one would anticipate a price reduction. Again, in my view, nearly fifty bucks is expensive. Others have written about the quality, which is exceptional. I applaud the makers of this stand and like it, personally, so much that I carry it in to the library with me. I have tried the simpler stands, the adjustable stands, the bookstands and picture stands--they all pale in comparison to this M stand. You can tell that I like it by the fact that I carry it with me daily. It weighs about one US pound. TIPS and THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: Some reasons to buy it, and tips, that are not what you will read in the reviews below; these are things I have found in many months of use to help you. Raising the laptop not only allows for better eye and neck ergonomics, but it gets my laptop out of the way of spills. I might spill my water, or the person sharing my library table might spill their drink, but alas, the computer is raised off the desk. Saved! It raises the front of your laptop about 2.5 to three inches, and I find using the laptop keyboard difficult on this stand. Sure, it can be done, but it's just high enough, in my opinion, to make it hard to rest forearms and elbows on the table for prolonged typing. I much prefer, and use exclusively now, a bluetooth keyboard, like the Apple one, on the desk top. Apple Wireless Keyboard MC184LL/B I can use a thin wrist rest with it, like this one from Grifiti, which I cannot when I am trying to type on the laptop's own keyboard. Grifiti Slim Wrist Pad 12 Black Nylon Surface Non-Skid Neoprene Base Wrist Rest Apple® Wireless Keyboard, Anker, Macally, Logitech, GYMLE, Gear Head, Genius, SIIG, Solidtek, Perixx, Verbatim, HP and other 12 Inch Slim Keyboards Others have reviewed that they have no issues typing on the laptop itself; this is something you will need to test for yourself as the M Stand is not adjustable. When I use the men's room (you'll find this funny, I'm sure...), I have my messenger bag, and this stand, which I carry by hand. Where do I put it? On the urinal dividers between urinals. It's a perfect U-shape, and I can rest it on top of the divider. The U comes in handy if you want to put it over anything--a chair back, a shelf edge, etc. --for storage. I'm ashamed to say, I don't know where a woman could hang it in the ladies room. The open hole in the back of it is fantastic for cable organization, power cord and mouse cable, any USB devices, and frankly, having this stand and all the cables through the hole makes it quite hard to steal. It's daunting for a library thief to see all the cables back there and imagine getting hung up in the cable and stand if they were to take your laptop; they just prefer a grab and go. And importantly, I have my Kensington laptop lock cable also through the hole in the stand, then into the computer, so it's not like someone will steal my M stand or the computer. Here's my cable: Kensington 64068F MicroSaver Notebook Lock and Security Cable (PC/Mac) It fits neatly into the round hole opening. I also have a Kensington combination lock for laptops, and it, too, fits through the hole. The hole is 1.5 inches diameter. Okay, another benefit is the opening of the stand toward the front--the front of the U, if you will. It is 2.25 inches high. Some stands have no front opening, if you get my meaning. They are simply blocks or steps; this one has a U shape that allows an opening in the front. Great for tucking things that you wouldn't want just lying around on the public library desktop: cell phone, Mp3 player, hard drive (which I leave connected to the USB port). When I leave for a moment to use the bathroom (there's the bathroom again; you'd think I spent my whole day in the bathroom!), you can tuck your bluetooth keyboard under there rather than leaving it right out on the desk. I throw my mousepad over it, and it's a small but tangible amount of increased security provided by the hidden tucking front "shelf" of the M stand. One could even stash food--peanuts, M&M bags, trail mix, a candy bar--under there since most libraries don't allow eating food. But, I'd never do anything against the rules like that...not in a million years. I don't even know how I came up with that idea of stuffing food under there. This stand is stable, it is just the right height for me (5 foot 9 inches, normal build) and is truly a great item. I have used my larger laptop--17 inch Toshiba--on it also; if the front of the larger computer is rounded plastic, it will have a tendency to "jump" the little shelf rubberized "lip" on the front of this unit, though. You might need to add something that provides friction to the front edge of a larger notebook to prevent this jumping off the stand with gravity and jarring, if you understand my meaning. A flat fronted larger computer will not have an issue, even up to 17 inches like mine. The stand will handle a 7 lb. computer. I hope you enjoy the M stand as much as I do. I may buy another one now that I see M stand making swiveling ones and height adjustable ones and other such complexity that I do not need or want; just my luck, they'll stop making this simple and effective model that I favor for some "updated" piece of junk. Yes, I may need to buy one more of these. Cheers and happy computing.

Looks great, sturdy, perfect height, exactly what you want and expect
This is my second mStand by Rain Design. I previously owned a Macbook Pro (13"), then I purchased an iMac and sold my Macbook Pro and mStand along with it. However, I recently went back to a Macbook Pro (15") and had to purchase another mStand. It works perfect for all size Macbook Pros. The extra weight of the 15" does not cause any flexing in the mStand. It is pretty sturdy, however, if you are not using an external keyboard, you will notice some bouncing/shaking as you type. However, the purpose of this stand is to use it with an external keyboard most of the time. The cable management hole in the back will fit plenty of cables and connectors (including a standard DVI cable). There is a plastic ring inside the hole that acts as a grommet, so you do not have to worry about your cables resting against a sharp edge. The space under the laptop is enough for a keyboard (I keep an external Blu Ray drive under since my MBP doesn't have an internal drive). They advertise that the aluminum acts as a heat sink to keep your laptop cooler. I am not sure if this is true. There are rubber feet on the stand (as you can see in the picture) that prevents direct metal to metal contact. While the feet are not too high, I am not sure if that gap between laptop and stand is small enough to allow the stand to act as a heat sink or not. According to iStat, all of my temperatures remain under 30C during normal use. Even if I am watching a video and my dedicated graphics card kicks in, it stays around 37C. When I play a game, I have not had it go over 70C. So it operates within normal/safe temperature ranges. I had this laptop on a laptop cooling pad I had laying around before I ordered this stand, and the temperatures are about the same. The height is perfect. With the height of my desk and chair, it sets the top of the screen to my eye level, which is much more ergonomic than if the laptop was on the desk directly. It also puts it at about the height of my external monitor, so when I am using both monitors it is easier to look from one to the other. I am not sure what more I can say about this stand. It looks amazing, it serves its purpose. I think the best review I could give is the fact that I liked it enough that I bought it a second time when I went back to using a laptop exclusively. If you are using this for work and are constantly spinning your laptop around, then they do sell a swivel version. This one does not swivel well as there are rubber feet on the bottom of the stand between it and the desk, and you wouldn't want to destroy those by trying to swivel this model.

Rain Design mStand
