Having never had them I thought the metal grates for the bottoms were a "gimmick". No longer, they make using the sink so much easier when items you put in don't tip and slide towards the drain! Well worth the price over a discount sink. I will note that the basket strainer does not come with a tail piece but be warned, it is a European style so you will likely need an adapter to make one fit properly. Take both strainers with you to the hardware store, and consider getting a "dual sink" drain kit. The basket strainer is great but much deeper than the other, so hooking up your drains may be an issue. We had to put the basket on the right, even though we preferred it on the left, in order to have enough room for a proper fall - and our P-trap is under the floor! Of course the undermount took away 2" of clearance for drains.

really nice sink. feels solid and doesn't make any tinny sounds. We mounted ours as an undermount. Having never had them I thought the metal grates for the bottoms were a "gimmick". I have a 33" kitchen sink base cabinet and I wanted to maximize the size of the sink that I installed.
