Solid product, four stars
Growing up in an Asian household we were exposed to this at a young age - as a toy. Yes, it looks like a radar dish, yes it transforms and yes it can hold your legos. But mom always would use it to steam veggies in a pot on the stove - talk about a waste to a young child! That said, I recall the product well and this is almost as good as the one from decades past. It actually has rubber feet (which I don't recall) and a center stand and ring in which you can lift the entire thing out - with the steamed veggies. The only draw back I can envision is the bent metal fastener used to hold the sides - the bottom was a bit more sturdy from the ones "way back when"But for making bao or steaming broccoli, this will do the trick! Far better than the steamer stands that you find shipped with products like Instapots (which I purchased and promptly sought out a replacement for - the stand, not the pot!).Funny, I tried finding the same thing in multiple Asian markets ... no luck. Wonder where mom got hers from ... and where it went?

I like the soft feet on this steamer and it came ...
I have been steaming food, especially vegetables for over 50 years. I selected this steamer because two of my steamers were beginning to corrode on the stem/handle. I like the soft feet on this steamer and it came with an additional stem. The construction appears to be far better than my old ones. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

It's not rust!!!
When you see brown on your steamer, it's not rust. It's what comes off whatever you are steaming. I thought the nut had rusted on this steamer. But if you wash it properly, use a little Bon Ami or some vinegar or a toothpick or toothbrush, it's gone. All steamers do this. Rust will look flaky.I had believed the nut had rusted, though the rest of the steamer was fine. In fact, for some reason, the vegetable oxidations gather particularly around the nut at the bottom. It is a great steamer!

Works well
I was looking for a cheap way just to steam vegetables in a pot without going through a major expense or having to buy a steamer pot this works quite well you loosening up and then it folds out to fit different sizes of pots has feet at the bottom to keep it raised up about an inch from the bottom of the pot so you can have water in there to steam and cook I found it works very well and easy to store pleased with my purchase

Great kitchen tool!
I use the steamer to cook eggs in their shells instead of boiling them. Cook the eggs on the steamer over an inch of boiling water with the pot covered for 15 minutes. Then put the eggs in a large bowl of ice water for a few minutes until cooled. Roll them on the counter to crack the shells and peel them under a slow stream of water. The shells always slip right off with no trouble, even if the eggs are fresh. I love this steamer!

Quality Product
If you are in the market for a pot steamer, this is the quality product to buy. It far surpasses any of the 4-5 steamers we have had in the past 15 years. Once you use it you will see the quality of design, its stainless steel construction, and the sturdiness of the feet that support it in the pan. And...the price is remarkable.

Works better than my 2 other $35 plus steamers!
Really and truly this is one of those rare cases where simpler is better. I have had 2 steamers that were over $30. In all honesty they make incredible rice. As far as vegetables go they are not so good unless you like yours soggy and limp! Trust me I have tried changing the time to water amount and the placement but they always turned out soggy and limp to say the best. To the younger readers we had this type of product available in the 60s perhaps longer. It cost more back then if you can believe that(if you got the stainless steel kind)! It is real easy to use! The key is to make sure the water is below the metal container holding the vegetables! I have to say to the guide they send for timing is dead on! I don't see how you could mess up if you follow the timing guide. So for those of you who are not too sure how to do his here it is!First steamed vegetables hold almost all of the good vitamins and health benefits! Really the only way to get better is to eat them raw. The next step is picking out your vegetables. You want them to have the same color called uniform! You do not want one that is for example light green and dark green and same goes for any color. You also do want them to soft or spongy! To some that is hard concept to understand but just feel them and you will see that some are more firmer than others. So now you have your vegetables! Cook your main meal as this will be the last thing you cook to ensure they are crisp and taste fresh. Fill up a big pot with water that will be about 1/4 inch below your steamer that will fit in with you vegetables! You might before cooking test this making sure your steamer is above the water line with all your vegetables. Rinse your vegetables very well because remember we have all handled it at the grocery store. Rinse your vegetables because there may be pesticides or wax the farmer put on them! Run only cold water over them to get rid of all this as much as you can! Lay on paper towel to dry! Cut your ends off stems by 1/4 inch. They are dried out at these points! Peel your carrots and potatoes if that it is what you are steaming! Bring your water to a boil and lower your steamer in. Set your timer on or your watch for the minutes the guide that comes with this suggest! At the very last minute or two add your salt and pepper and garlic salt etc. but use lightly as to not take away from the flavor of the vegetable! Try using drops of lemon juice as this will keep it fresher and more tender! Experiment and have fun! This is low cal and so good for you and so yummy! ( I must admit I add real butter and I should'nt but it taste so good! ;))Once done DO NOT use your fingers to pick up that end at top! You will burn yourself. I use a chop stick ! I stick it through the hole and pick it up! Remember if the water is boiling and touching your vegetables they will be soggy! Reduce water! This is the case where simpler is better! You may be thinking with the price this will not work but not true in this case! This is a very good product at a very good price! I hope that helps !
