Great for both find the roads with the best views while driving and also planning walks.
Due to recovering from Covid it was clear that this Lake District holiday would be less active than normal, hence I needed a set of maps to get a good overview for driving, I have the OS 1:50k maps for walking etc. As it is impossible to tell how clear maps are when ordering on Amazon, I ordered 4 maps and returned 2 that are not of reasonable quality.I returned "Topographical Map of the Lake District Wainwright Fells" and "Lonely Planet Lake District & Cumbria Planning Map" as they both are not very clear compared to the other maps.I kept "Lake District & Cumbria Map | Trip Planning | Ordnance Survey | OS Tour Map" and "Lake District BMC (British Mountain Map)" as they both give a great overview of the complete Lake District while also clearly showing all roads etc.

Love it
When I first heard about Harvey's Maps, I wasn't sure about the scaling, plus it's just not an OS Map. I'm sold on the format now, though. I bought the Lake District map, and it's perfect for what I need: one compact map to cover the best bits of the Lake District, suitable for walking.

Excellent map for hillwalking and trekking
This is the first Harvey map that I have bought, and it won't be the last. It covered a wide enough area for three walks more than 20 miles apart, yet allowed sufficient detail for most of the features that hillwalkers need, like contour lines, altitude and minor tops. When opened out it helps you pinpoint features in the far distance. It was also helpful for navigation while in the car. A fantastic map.

good compromise for scale (nice finish)
good if you don't want a 1:50,000 but you realised you need about 76 1:25,000 OS maps to walk the area you are in thanks to the good people at ordinance survey.the 1:40,000 does the trick with enough detail to get you about safely, you may be left slightly wanting when looking at craggy outcrops and gorges though. I haven't had to many issues with it and it still looks fairly reasonable after a good amount of use in all weather.nice plastic finish If you are old school and use a chino graphic pencil

The Best UK Mountain Maps
I find the BMC Harvey maps are the best maps to use in any of the UK mountain areas, and the Lake District map is no different. 1:40000 is a great scale navigating with, enough detail to find your way about (on and off trail), but without getting to cluttered. The contour shading is great when casting a quick eye over the map too, and the map materiel is far superior to any of the OS Maps (waterproof, but not cumbersome). The map was purchased primarily for navigation whilst running, for which it fits the bill perfectly. Also, the fact the BMC maps are designed to cover entire mountain regions, you don't need to take 15 different maps like you would with an OS Map.
