For about 30 years my swimming pool filter was trapping air, reducing its filtration efficiency and causing the pool cleaner to move about very slowly. No one can figure out why. There is a product that is supposed to remove this trapped air and according to close to 100% of the reviews it did not work and it allowed a lot of water to escape costing a lot of money on the water monthly bill. When I saw this product listed on Amazon to relieve steam in industrial settings and never mention it to be used in swimming pool filters. Since I installed it on my pool water filter the air trapping problem disappeared once and for all. I wish I knew about this product 30 years ago. It is very well made, easy to take apart and clean. The bottom part is interchangeable depending on the size of the fitting you need, it is offered in ⅛, ¼, ½, ¾, 1 inch sizes. It must be mounted in the vertical position to help the float (also works as a check valve) to work with the gravity. It comes with a nice large size silicone washer to allow you to screw it on or remove it by hand (no tools). I purchased a ¼ inch brass elbow (the size of the fitting on top of my water filter) at Home Depot (see pictures) for about $ 5.00 dollars. Beduan company should advertise it to be used on pool filters because it will increase their sales astronomically.

Does this let air only out or can it let air in also like an admittance valve?

it has a float inside that will rise with the water in the pipe. air passes around the float and out the top and then closes off when water pushes the float up.. this bleeds air out of the pipe of the bleeder is a the top of the system. If water were to drain out from lower in the system the float should drop and air should be able to enter from the vent at the top of the bleeder assy.  An air admittance valve is closed off all the time by a spring loaded diaphragm and only opens hen there is sufficient pressure difference such as when you flush a toilet.

What is the thread size for the air outlet for the 1/2"  npt one?

The threads on the outlet end match the cap and are not standard threads. The OD of the thread is approximately 9/32".Thread type is G thread.
