Post op shoe for a great price
My son fractured his toe and orthopedist prescribed a post op shoe with a rigid bottom. His office recommended this shoe at a fraction of the cost than the one they carried. It worked great and held up for most of the time he needed to wear it- the bottom cracked right near the end of his wear-time. It got the job done!

Lifesaver when a new big toe issue happened just days before a trip
I had a big toe injury several months ago and had to have the nail removed. I bought this shoe shortly after when the shoe the hospital sent me home with was horrible. At the time this was a godsend - and helped about a month later when I had to travel for work.Fast forward 8 months later, when a podiatrist had to do a "minor" procedure as a result of the previous injury (and I had severe pain in my big toe) just 2 days before I was to board a flight for a long weekend in Vegas. (You can't go to Vegas without walking or being in a wheelchair - which was not an option!)This shoe was so comfortable. While I might not have been my normal self with my normal stride, this shoe fit was light and kept my toe safe (and all my toes aligned). The shoe had a great grip, was not slippery, and really felt like a shoe. I bought an extra one in case I needed it, but the Velcro really held up to the almost 8 miles a day I did!

Relief for fractured toes!
This brace is a huge relief for fractured toes! In my situation, the injury is to the 4 smaller toes, middle of the little toe, middle of the toe next to the big toe, and base of the 3 middle toes. I'm able to get my foot into a loose shoe or walk/hobble barefoot but it's very uncomfortable, causes additional swelling to my foot and puts undue strain on other parts of my body. I've got a lot of swelling beneath my toes so it feels like I'm walking on a bunched-up sock. I have a boot from a previous injury to these same toes. The boot does help but it's heavy and clunky and puts pressure on the top of my toes which adds to the nerve irritation. I ordered this brace which was delivered the next day to my house and provided immediate relief to my foot. It's lightweight so there is no pressure at the top of the foot. It's not at all clunky. The bottom of the sole is configured to put the pressure more into the middle of the foot when stepping and rocks as you step so as not to bend the toes. I'm now able to walk with a more normal gait so other parts of my body are also feeling relief. The sole height is a close match to the shoes I normally wear which is an added bonus (the boot is much higher). My foot is a normal size 6. The photos show the brace next to a size 6 Merrell Women's Encore Ice 4 shoe, one with a lightweight sock and one with a heavy sock. My only complaint with this brace is that the bottom sole is molded out of hard plastic. It does have grips and doesn't appear slippery, but I would prefer a more absorbent rubber sole. Aside from that, I highly recommend this. Yesterday was the first day that I wore it all day and it relieved the pain enough that I was able to get a good night's sleep. Well worth it!

Prevents toes from bending
I normally wear a size 8.5 shoe and got the size large brace. It does prevent toes flexing, and it has a large square toe platform that prevents stubbing and protects against people running you over with shopping carts and other accidents. You can't drive in it.The front strap comes right down on the joint for your big toe. It's OK if that toe isn't the one that's broken. In my case the big toe is broken in four places, so I left the first strap loose and used the back two straps. This helped protect my foot from becoming more injured and held the bones in place so there's no displacement of the bones, but after 6 weeks it was still painful and not healing. At that point, my doctor gave me a full sized boot and THAT works to fully immobilize and protect the whole big toe, allowing it to heal.Long story short: if you have a badly broken big toe, this shoe is OK for light wear but it isn't good enough to help healing. You will want a boot that immobilizes the whole foot. The hard boot is better because it takes your body weight off your foot. A hard piece wraps around your calf and transmits your weight through the boot shell, leaving no weight on your toes.If you have a simple break or if it's any other toe besides the big one, this shoe would probably be good enough for full healing. I am glad I have it as a backup when I don't want to wear the big boot, but I wish I had known to ask for a boot in the first place. I could have saved myself six weeks of agony.
