After trying numerous times to deter the dogs and cats to stay out of my trees and vines, I decided to purchase these "spikes". They are easy to put together, you can cut to size, they weigh nothing and are easy to attach to each other. I did find that they work immediately without harming the animals' paws. I have an oval shape around my trees and it was easy to cut to size. I do with they included more U-shaped pieces to help keep the mats in place, but overall, I'm happy with the result, the trees and vines are now safely protected, they can grow without any disruption.

This product really works. I have trimmed it and cut it to position area surrounding the post where the numbers to our house is. The dogs will step on it and leap off immediately. No more dogs peeing on that post and no more dogs pooping on my garden right at the entrance to my home. This is a marvelous thing. I see the same dogs that used to dump right there walk on it and immediately run off. They never do it twice. And it’s fairly good looking as well! It’s a dark area surrounding the flowers that I have growing there and looks really quite elegant and professional. I can’t help running to the window every time a dog walks by to watch them, not poop on my yard. The dogs in the neighborhood have learned, they don’t even sniff in that direction anymore. They just walk on by. UPDATE: I still love this solution to my problem. Having had it down now since my first entry, I have discovered these trap small leaves in the fall. I just pull them up, stacked, rake the leaves, and re-apply. Presto! A neat, new look. Also - now the Unconscionably Rude Dog Walkers who leave their dog's poop have selected another part of my front border upon which to leave their feces, despite my lovely garden filled with summer flowers for all to admire and take delight in. (sigh) I am prepared to cover all of my parking strip if I have to; I have ordered 10 more boxes. UPDATE: August 11, 2025. MAN I love this stuff! There is no single dog who will stop and poop on my property, even when their owner encourages them to. They just don't step on it twice. Yes yes yes! AND, it looks like a high-definition mulch! My sedums grow right up through it, flowers and all! When I weed, I sometimes remove them and then replace them. They get trampled a little by enthusiastic children testing them out, but - hey - that's entertainment! I don't mind that. It's dog poop left for me to deal with I don't want. And that is working!!!!!

Unless your cats are absolutely psychos like mine, this will work. Mine walk on it as if it is a therapeutic bed.

Pretty good mats, I had to trim them to fit the bed in front of the porch, it needs more of the U-shaped metal ground staples, the tiny black "clip hooks" that can be clipped from each mat aren't long enough to do any good.

Just as described. However did not work for our dog. He figured out our little scheme.

I tried these at Christmas to keep my cat away from the tree. I tested to make sure they didn't hurt her and they did not. They were uncomfortable enough that she didn't walk on them though. The best thing is that last year the rabbits were eating my Hosta's, but this year, after putting these around the plants, they don't get close enough to bother them. They are a little hard to get apart and handle due to the points, but tolerable and worth it to me. Since my mulch is also black, they don't show up that much and I can enjoy the Hosta's all summer... It's been great! I worried they were too light weight and might blow away, but they didn't move at all. I do recommend them for both issues.... Except I didn't keep them around the tree as they don't exactly look nice on the floor but did keep them long enough that the cat got used to not going around the tree anyway.

I have a terrible problem with raccoons digging in my flower pots. This product sure did the job! They send a lot of sheets that are easy to cut into the proper sizes and blends into the color of the soil. I partially buried it so it is not obvious. No more torn and scattered flowers all over my porch! I highly recommend this item.

This product is a total failure! The only thing that these mats are good for was collecting cat poop. This attracted cats so badly that it was the only place in my yard where they pooped. On the plus side, there was no poop anywhere else in my yard.
