Typically hiking boots are ordered a little bigger to account for foot swelling after hard days on trails and for comfort going downhill to prevent toe jam. I am a size 12 and they worked good for me but I am also a size 11 in certain brands. If 9.5 gives you wiggle room going downhill and doesn’t chaff than try that. Otherwise try a 10.
