Practical hat for outdoors
These sun hats are excellent for working in the yard or trekking outdoors. They are cool, light, adjustable and cover the back of the neck. I mostly like it for I can snap and keep my face and my decollate from getting sunspots further damaging my skin.

5 stars great hat
i love this hat. It covers everything Unfortunately there is only one button in front for the back/side flaps. I think it will cover the little area above top center of t-shirt/shirt, but will have to see A 2nd snap would cinch this together just so - I will try a little clip of some sort. Otherwise very impressive I can even see to the side (peripheral vision) with neck flap OR with both neck-flap and face sheild. Fantastic I chose the khaki (beige) color - I look good in this despite the fact that i don't normally look very good in khaki, as most people probably don't. They picked just the right shade. ! ;) One little thing, an 'almost-annoyance'. with the face-sheild on, you have to tug it just so, so that the cloth doesn't cut in too close to your eyes and slightly but NOTICEABLY AND ANNOYINGLY rug against eyelashes. If you tug it just so...NO problem. At least on my head -- 5'9" male, average sized head. Still, with everything on, good peripheral vision and I don't expect sunburn near the eyes -- as I said, they are cutting about as close to the eyes as they can without interfering. GREAT product, amazing price (imo). Love it so far. Now for the test walk and test run...

nice quality, functional hat
I bought this hat because a friend of mine had one, which she used on a hiking trip in France. It's nicely made, is very lightweight, and does a good job of protecting your head from the sun. I don't know if there are multiple versions of this hat, or if it's because I have a very large head (I have to set the adjustment strap to the largest possible position), but I have no issues with having a gaping hole in the back where the sun shines through. The neck flap completely covers the back of the cap, sealing out the sun, while letting air through. I like the foldable front visor. It makes the hat very compact when folded up. The visor is also very long, which blocks out the sun. I only have a few concerns: 1) the neck strap is held on by some tiny plastic clips which look like they might eventually break off, but it's hard to guess how durable they are. I don't plan to use the neck strap, anyway, so it's not a concern to me. 2) the face mask part is hard to attach/detach, but I have the same problem with all of the other similar hats I've tried. 3) the face mask is a rather tight fit for me, but again, my head is very large, so it might not be an issue for others. I don't know if it's water resistant or not, but I don't really care about that particular function. It's upsetting, though, that between when I saw the listing and when I ordered it 3 hours later, the price went up $3.

Does what it claims for my use case
Use case: outdoor pistol competition. 5 - 6hrs w/ minimal-to-zero shade in HI; summer here now so ~93 degF+ (34C) with 80-100% humidity. Several generations in HI so tan well, but still burn in these conditions... Claim: lightweight, quick to dry -- yes, can vouch for that, even as sweltery as it can be here in direct midday sun. Was having to constantly wring out a shemagh; now easily 1/4 the weight and drier to boot. Claim: UPF 50+ sun protection -- not a doctor nor an authority on skin cancer or UV exposure... but even shifting the buttons back over the ears & allowing two vents to exhaust out hot air and sweat out the back... didn't have half the tan reaction/burn w/ skin not properly slathered in sunscreen or under UV-blocking clothing. 6 hrs in the midday sun, constantly moving with only the cap, bill, and neck flap to protect my face and neck... does the job. Claim: LOL not the most English-literate ad copy writer... but it does absorb and dry sweat much better than a shemagh, long the standard for Afghanis and our coalition in the desert (also warms and protects your neck when it's brass-bra-cold there, which is why iColors aren't more popular there, I suppose :) ). If the ad claims waterproofing... we don't compete in rainy, muddy conditions for safety, but I'd say this claim isn't really 'marketable'... Note: I don't use the face mask -- in more temperate or dusty conditions, this would provide even more protection. Not to mention it all snaps apart for washing, then folds into itself for your pocket or range bag. Summary: Was using a cap-dome-mesh-vented, but conventional ball cap and a shemagh, and hating life. Saw a fellow competitor with one, and noticed he rarely had to do all the fussing around with it I was. For $12+shipping it was a no-brainer... Tips: For those who're using this for tasks like mowing the lawn or chainsawing trees (requiring ear protection)... take the two forwardmost snaps and move them 2 snaps rearward, so two vent openings appear in back. Safety-pin the center of the elastic portion of the flap, to the cap adjuster (see pic -- this doesn't appear to affect the amount *I* felt tanned or burned, and definitely improved comfort... but if you're fair-skinned and have to work outside at midday, may be better off snapping everything normally). This allows bulkier earpro (like my giant Pro Ears Gold 28dBs) to seal to the skin, rather than onto the flap laid over the ears. It also allows sweat/hot air from your neck to escape -- noticeably better both for earpro and comfort. :) For my use case (which I think may fit most potential customer use cases)... the price is reasonable -- getting more in this comfy, minimally-heating grey color, for the yard.

Very comfortable and effective!
I'm a standup paddler and I WISH I had gotten myself one of these a LONG time ago. I'm trying to protect my skin from aging, and my skin is very sensitive in general and prone to hyperpigmentation. No amount of sunscreen is as effective as a physical covering like this -- believe me, I've tried! I definitely recommend still using sunscreen, however, because you still will get a little sun exposure around the eyes and forehead -- especially while on the water, with the sun reflecting off the surface. I was impressed with how light this hat is, and cool and comfortable. As cool as anything could be on very hot, humid Chicago days we've had recently. I also wore it out in somewhat windy conditions, about 12mph or so, and the drawstring under the chin ensures the hat isn't going anywhere. Also really like the design of the brim, the way it bends easily and can fit into my camelbak when I want to take a dip. Other reviews say not to immerse it, but the fabric flaps are detachable so it can be washed. Highly recommend!!

My Non-Compensated Thoughts
Did most of the people reviewing this product actually try it or did they feel the need to write a positive review because they practically got a free hat? I had to buy cap - at full price so I wish I got a discount!! This hat isn't waterproof at all! Water does bead off the fabric but it does eventually soak through and plus the seams aren't taped so I can't understand what reviewers and the copy are saying about it being waterproof. I'll be fair and consider that I might have gotten a newer/older model but if that's the case, someone should revise the description. Good: - * Face and side flaps can be used independently [but.... - Washable plastic brim stiffener - Cap by itself is very accommodating to large heads - Good airflow over nose for breathing - Well made (no loose threads sticking out, plastic snaps feel secure, even stitching, doesn't feel like a $1 hat) - Not too stifling, light fabric Not As Good: - *..the side flap is one entire piece] - NOT waterproof as advertised - Quite snug face flap under the eyes - A bit of a struggle to detach/attach the face flap while wearing the cap (because of the location of the snap button under the side flap for times you want to be sociable and talk to someone for a few minutes without having your face covered) - Front flap too short to tuck into a shirt The face flap isn't adjustable but you can attach it to the first snaps on the front that is meant for the side flap to make it fit more loosely but if you want to use the side flaps, you'll have to deal with a 1" gap of exposure. Somehow after one wash, the tightness of the face flap loosened a teeny tiny bit but not by enough so I still have to readjust it sometimes but it is a bit more comfortable. For my needs, I decided to keep this cap because the strength of the good points outweigh the bad ones. -2 stars for the snug face flap but especially for saying it's waterproof when it isn't.

Better Than Expected
This is a well designed, excellent quality and well constructed hat. The snaps that hold on the face and back cover and very strong and the brim is longer than a typical baseball cap, which is great. The price is very reasonable for what you get and I would highly recommend this hat. How I review: When I review a product said product automatically starts with four stars as I rarely will purchase anything below four stars. I then add and/subtract stars based on certain criteria as listed below. 1. If an item is exactly what I expected and nothing more it will receive a four star rating 2. If an item surpasses my expectations it will gain a star (5 Stars) 3. If an item goes slightly below my expectations it will lose a star (3 Stars) 4. If the instructions for the product (if needed) are poorly written (hard to understand due to language issues or grammar) or just too hard to follow it will lose a star no matter if the product meets or exceed my expectations 5. If a product is significantly below my expectations I will deduct two stars 6. It will be rare that I would give a product one star since I buy mostly items that have a 4+ rating but in rare instances there may be a good reason that even a four star product gets a one star rating from me. It could be because of customer service issues from the company but whatever the case is I will clearly explain my reason for giving a product only one star
