I thought the same thing. However, when I received the cover, I noticed there is a radiant barrier installed on the inside. I noticed it helps keep temps lower by blocking radiant heat when in the sun

Q: Can you plug this into a cigarette lighter?

Not sure if it can be plugged into a cigarette lighter. We had our Alpicool fridge hooked up to a rechargeable 12-volt battery while driving cross country. We would plug the battery in to recharge it when we stopped to camp for the night, and it would then last the entire time we were driving to our next destination. This battery is a fast-charging one, but because it was a gift from our son, I don't have the details on it, but it made things so much better for us while traveling! Maybe the product description of the fridge will give you info on the cigarette lighter question?
