## Overview

The BraceAbility Thumb & Wrist Spica Splint (Large, Left Hand) is a medically redesigned, durable brace crafted from breathable Lycra and spandex. It features removable aluminum splints for targeted immobilization of the thumb and wrist, adjustable hook-and-loop closures for a custom fit, and ergonomic contouring that preserves finger mobility. Ideal for managing De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, tendonitis, arthritis, and sprains, this lightweight splint offers all-day comfort and long-lasting support tailored to wrist circumferences between 8½” and 9½”.

## Description

This wrist and thumb splint immobilizes and supports the joint at the base of the thumb as well as the saddle joint between the thumb and the index finger. Wearing this brace will help to treat many lower thumb and wrist injuries including: wrist or thumb tendonitis, De Quervain's disease, arthritis, thumb or wrist sprains or strains, and rhizarthrosis. This splint is made of a durable material that will stand up to frequent use. The lycra material is also breathable and padded, which makes it more comfortable to wear. Because the color of this wrist stabilizer is black it wonÕt show wear, dirt, stains, etc. Another feature that enhances the comfort of this brace is the contouring that is incorporated in several areas of the brace. The contouring in the palm area of the brace allows you to move the fingers normally, including movements such as grasping or clenching. There is also contouring at the pinky joint, allowing one to spread the fingers. This wrist brace has aluminum stays for extra support that can be removed for a more flexible brace. You can also mold the thumb stay as needed for a customized fit. There are three hook and loop closures along the wrist and forearm area, to ensure the brace stays in place. The closures of this wrist support make it easy to apply and adjust the compression. If the strap ends are too long, you can cut off the excess material. This wrist and thumb brace extends up the arm for added support to the wrist and forearm. Sizes XS and S are 7" long and sizes M-L are 8" long. This measurement does not include the thumb portion, see image above for details. You can choose between a right or left brace, along with five different sizes. To determine what size you will need, measure the circumference around your wrist, above your wrist bone. Washing instructions: Remove the metal stays prior to washing. Wash the brace in cold water, on a gentle cycle with a mild soap. Air dry, do not expose the brace to any heat source.

Review: Very Pleased So Far - I had a thumb joint replacement on my left hand and a brace was required after six weeks in a cast. I am six days out from having the cast removed and have another five weeks where the brace will be necessary. My surgeon provided a universal brace that was huge on my hand, no padding at all so it was also very painful to wear. After two days, I ordered this brace in my size, an extra small, and it fits my hand well. After six weeks in a cast, my hand is not yet flexible enough to be in any other position except the one my surgeon gave me for my cast. That was a concern for me so I was relieved to find this brace puts my thumb in an anatomically correct position. My incision site is still very bruised and painful and my skin is hypersensitive right now. The padding in this brace is pretty good and would do well, I think, if my hand did not have the bruising from my cast and soreness that comes with surgery. I have addressed this by adding a piece of foam to further cushion the area around my incision. I think this will not be necessary once I heal up more, but the brace has adjustable straps that allow for the extra padding and I am comfortable wearing it. To be honest, I was hesitant to purchase this brace because there were a number of negative reviews, but BraceAbility indicated they had updated the brace in 2019 based on those same negative comments. That impressed me because not many manufacturers seem to do that so I decided to give it a try. It appears to me they did an excellent job of addressing the negative issues. This brace has size options and my size fits, it is well-padded and adjustable without a surplus length of straps hanging over. The ribbed, soft fabric that is under the straps could have been a bit longer for me because it didn't quite keep the straps from lying against the top of my hand. Were my skin not so sensitive right now, I don't think it would be a problem. I cannot speak to the longevity of this brace since I have only been using it for a few days. In my case, if it lasts for another five weeks, it will be money well-spent. I will say it appears to be well made and sturdy. If it turns out otherwise, I will pop back and update this review. For now, I have to say this brace is stellar.

I had a thumb joint replacement on my left hand and a brace was required after six weeks in a cast. I am six days out from having the cast removed and have another five weeks where the brace will be necessary. My surgeon provided a universal brace that was huge on my hand, no padding at all so it was also very painful to wear. After two days, I ordered this brace in my size, an extra small, and it fits my hand well. After six weeks in a cast, my hand is not yet flexible enough to be in any other position except the one my surgeon gave me for my cast. That was a concern for me so I was relieved to find this brace puts my thumb in an anatomically correct position. My incision site is still very bruised and painful and my skin is hypersensitive right now. The padding in this brace is pretty good and would do well, I think, if my hand did not have the bruising from my cast and soreness that comes with surgery. I have addressed this by adding a piece of foam to further cushion the area around my incision. I think this will not be necessary once I heal up more, but the brace has adjustable straps that allow for the extra padding and I am comfortable wearing it. To be honest, I was hesitant to purchase this brace because there were a number of negative reviews, but BraceAbility indicated they had updated the brace in 2019 based on those same negative comments. It supports my left thumb and wrist but the fabric tore after 2 months. I had another one but that one had lasted longer..

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very study and good guard for De Quervain's Tenosynovitis

I bought this as I suffered from De Quervain's Tenosynovitis The product helps restrict my thumb movement and aided my recovery. It is comfortable to wear it throughout the day and even while sleeping. The material is thick and has limited circulation so u might perspire if not used it in a cool environment. You should use an antibacterial wet wipes to clean if you perspire a lot. I bought this in addition to two different one as this guard is more rigid and I wear it if I am gonna be in an Aircon room the whole day or when I sleep at night.
