IMHO one of the best folders out there! Grade A!!
I've been collecting knives since 1971 or so and have hundreds of knives. This SOG is my favorite folder. For a folder this knife really ticks all the boxes. The fit and finish are perfect. Opening and closing this knife are a breeze even with my messed up old guy hands. The action is smooth as glass and the blade locks in place with a solid click. The lock is very strong and easy to release. The grip is my favorite ever on a pocket knife. The texture on the scales grips your fingers like crazy and there is jimping everywhere as well as a huge finger guard. I can't even think of a fixed blade knife I own that feels more secure in my hands. This is a fairly big and heavy folder but the grip is so secure I am confident any adult could safely use this knife. The blade is a perfect size, shape, and grind for an EDC for my purposes. The blade steel is the outstanding S35VN. Introduced in 2009 by Crucible Industries from Solvay New York, S35VN is a powder metallurgy alloy that is an excellent all around performer demonstrating superior edge retention, wear resistance, toughness, and corrosion resistance. S35VN is a hard alloy but is not overly hard to sharpen. The knife arrived razor sharp and required no sharpening prior to testing. I use proprietary test equipment to test blades for edge retention and toughness. Sacrificial materials are man made so testing will be exactly the same every time. This S35VN blade tested the best of any S35VN blade I have encountered thus far. Dulling was minimal and there was no chipping or edge rolling. The Cerakote coating is extremely durable and so no damage was caused to it or the tip while stabbing food cans. Hardness tested at 61 HRC. With this steel, the Cerakote, and a 5mm blade thickness this knife should be pretty much immortal. If I had to pick one pocket knife out of the hundreds of knives I own for some reason, without hesitation it would be this knife. Why? Amazing grip, American made from outstanding American alloy and Cerakote to boot! Plus super smooth operation! A bit spendy but for what you're getting it's a bargain. Especially compared to some other "high end" brands that cost much more. I literally have a pocket knife worth more than my motorcycle that is junk compared to this SOG. Nice holster for this knife: https://a.co/d/0idnDuAv Grumpy old guy enthusiastic seal of approval!!

Thick durable hunk of quality steel.
Amazing knife! Yes it isn't light but clean opening and love the back window othwr break. Fits in hands nicely and hefty blade of S35NV steel came shaving sharp. Honestly, love this knife! Just get it but know you're getting a thick durable hunk of steel with aggressive grips not a small letter opener. Huge bang for buck purchase and new favorite.

Nice folding knife
This knife is nice. It is very heavy-duty for a folding knife. The width of the blade is thick and with the counterweight metal piece in the opposite end of the knife, it is rather heavy in weight for a pocket knife. Compared to my other large folding knife, CRKT Triumph , this is a bit longer, heavier, and wider in size. I needed something that wasn't assisted opening for states that have a law against having that. The pocket clip is rather tight. The surface has a grippy texture. The balance is good. The bottom end has a metal stub that I think is meant to break car glass. The flipper stub on the blade helps you to open the knife. It does project out at the opposite end of the pocket clip, but it's not going to open up inside your pocket. If you carry the knife on the outside of your pants, then it's not an issue. There's a hole in the blade if you want to open the knife with it, but there's enough resistance to make that difficult. The build quality is great. It's sharp from the factory. I didn't need to do any further sharpening. The locking mechanism is great. Easy to unlock and close.

Beauty in beast mode
Excellent hard use knife, especially if you have to wear gloves. There are some complaints about the gimping, but I find it useful as the purpose intends. It’s there for grip, specifically with gloves. I myself find no problem gloves or not, just know that they are there and don’t expect to not feel them. This knife completes any job I need it for, with a bit of extra concentration needed for detailed task. Easy opening, stays sharp, and pretty simple to disassemble and clean. The glass breaker chisel point is useful without being so sharp it snags clothing or your hand when reaching for it or other items in the pocket. Kinda reminds me of another big black polymer tool low on looks but completely reliable to get the job done in any condition, which is also dead simple to disassemble and clean. One of SOG’s best next to the Kiku. I’ve had the micarta/carbon fiber one for years and it has been a solid performer in the daily carry. Not sure if they offer a deep carry clip? But it works for me as is, sooo… The Seal XR is a beast of a knife in size and build. This will take some room in the pocket but works. Great value for the money, I bought a used one, one complaint when received is that the pivot was dripping in what smelled of bar/chain oil??? A good cleaning and recondition solved this. Looks amazing, locks up solid, steel is CPM S35VN, don’t see a need to go another $100 for magnacut, easy deployment and trusted tool in the EDC carry. If your looking for a sleek beast of a knife this could be for you. Fit and finish is smooth, no lines or nubs to remove upon arrival. Carry on all…

A weirdly awesome piece from SOG
I don’t usually consider pieces from SOG when I’m looking at a dedicated knife. I have had a few of their multi tools and love the compound leverage pliers, so when I saw a USA made, overbuilt, XR lock flipper for 140 bucks, I figured it was worth a shot. I was correct, it was worth the shot. Sharp out of the box, decent blade geometry, insanely good flipping action, and a hydraulic, smooth, satisfying drop shut that sounds like you’re loading artillery. It’s a behemoth. I wish the clip was deeper, but it’s a purpose built tool and its purpose is satisfying to use. It’s not lightweight, it’s not slim, it’s not that perfect EDC, and that’s what I love. SOG went for a folder with a fixed blade feel and this achieves that in a way I’ve only ever experienced with Cold Steel. By the way, AMAZING action, yet when I crank on the blade to look for any movement, it’s SOLID. Every folder has a little give if you really crank on the blade towards the tip. This one locks up like a bank vault. I’ve only experienced that kind of feel on a triad lock. Good on you SOG. Keep this good stuff coming.

Tank
Beast of a knife, a real tank. Very heavy duty for defense, but can do other things well too. Quality is superb as I've world expect from a U.S.A. made knife. Beautiful.

Fantastic knife.
Fantastic. I bought this almost a year ago. I carry it regularly and use it all the time. I don’t do anything harsh with it like prying, or plunging it into course material. Just regular everyday use cutting the things that life demands. This thing still shaves my arm hair a year later. None of the parts have worked loose, the belt clip is still rock solid. I’m impressed with the continuous performance I’ve gotten from this knife, yes it’s big, big enough to use for defense. I’m 100% certain if that day comes it won’t let me down just like it hasn’t to this point. I highly reccomend.

Great knife with 1 flaw
I love SOG. Carried a SOG Trident for 20 years. Temporarily lost that in a move so I purchased this one. Great knife, easy one hand open and close, and a wonderful hand feel. The only thing I don’t like is that unlike the Trident, there is no safety lock and if you drop it, there’s a chance the blade opens. Other than the lack of a closed locking feature, I like it better than the Trident…but safety is important, so 4.5/5
