JCB Fence Post Auger - Post Hole Digger, 6"

We used this to dig deep holes for poles that would support a shed that's exposed to wind. The auger was ideal for this, making it possible to dig holes that were neat and not too much larger than the post diameter. We used a trowel and small tub to assist clearing out the soil that did not come up with the auger. When you took your time with it, turning it to dig a small bit, then pulling it back up, it brought up quite a lot of soil with it, so there was not too much excess. We also used a narrow shovel in some sections, especially to help get past the bigger stones that blocked the auger. Overall, a useful bit of kit and makes digging pole holes much much easier - much easier than just with a shovel. This one felt sturdy and felt easy to use, and gets the hole started / deeper with the shovel working well as an accessory. It was much harder to start digging with the shovel alone. I can recommend this auger.

Bought one of these nearly 18months ago. And it has been worth its weight in gold. Its large and heavy but manageable by a single person and I have used it to a depth of 2.5/3ft. It gets through very compacted ground and handles stones well. 10/10. I've used to for fence posts, checking drainage in compacted soil, breaking soil up, making holes for foundations and planting trees and bushes. Never thought we'd find so much use for it. Only wish there was a smaller version as well to make narrower holes

Had a dozen or so 2.4mx100mm poles to install for a chicken run. This wonderful thing made short work of each and every post hole and also made placement both accurate and simple. It almost over-dug some of them and I had to be careful not to get carried away and go too deep.A few reviews mentioned snagged fingers. A decent pair of gloves solved any issues.Seems well made. Certainly had no problems with my little project.

I have used this auger to easily and successfully create a series of post holes in a sandy soil sitting over a layer of stones. The auger itself is quite robust and not so heavy that it is tiring to lift. It can be operated without the handle in some situations - this makes it quick and easy to create holes for planting etc. For deeper holes adding the handle makes it easier to turn the auger but it can be a problem if you are working up against an existing fence line.Overall this has proven to be a reliable and useful tool and has saved considerable time and effort. I would definitely not want to go back to digging holes without it and so for me it has proven to be well worth its asking price.

Ordered this auger to use when planting a new hedge. After looking at some of the cheaper options offered on Amazon I was not convinced they would be long-lasting tools as they are designed and supplied with jointed handles. I suspect they would easily suffer wear/damage when used on firmer ground. I therefore looked for a more robust option. JCB have an excellent reputation for quality so I chose this tool. It is very robust, well designed and well finished. I'm confident it should last for years. I think it is well worth the extra cost, it is a realistic price for a quality design. Very happy with my choice. Recommended.

Creates holes with ease, even on stony ground, I’ve dug out several post holes quickly and successfully, keeps the mess to a minimum as you can lift the auger out of the hole with the earth intact and drop the earth in a wheelbarrow or on a ground sheet to keep work area clear, have lots more post holes to cut out so will be used extensively, good quality and great value for money, would recommend this
