Excellent Research. Great storytelling.
If you are going to be an expat soon, this is THE book to get. Very well researched. Lots of details on how to survive, thrive and still stay connected to homeland. The author's stories are very touching especially his grandma's story. I could relate to the 5 different stages starting from honeymoon to yearning. Especially liked the resources at the end.

Awesome book!
This book has some excellent tips! The author provides so much information that if you’re looking to live abroad you will need to read it! Make sure you do your proper research, that your goals are measurable and my favorite- talk with the taxi driver and cashier instead of the agents because they will not have a hidden agenda. Highly recommended!

This book is very practical; highly recommeded
I really enjoyed reading this book and I think the author really knows the landscape. There were topics here that I had not considered in the last few years as I've thought of moving abroad. This author presents important information in a conversational way and I took lots of notes as I read the book. Highly recommended.

A Little Rough in Style, but Unique Insights
There are a few nuts and bolts, technical resources that handle the practical aspects of living abroad, but equally valuable are books like this that give tips on making life abroad more enjoyable and more meaningful. Tips like, "talk to your cab driver," and "call your grandmother more often," among many others, will add to the quality of your life overseas. There are practical, money saving tips, as well. Sometimes the syntax of the book caught me off guard and slowed me down a little (probably based more on how I read than anything else), but I still think this book merits 5 stars.

Good advice
Borba’s book is filled with been-there done-that advice for those thinking of moving away from their home country for a while. The best advice comes with his discussion of culture shock due to differences in time management, humor, rules, and communication. We always knew the English were funny and the Germanic peoples less so, but who would’ve thought the east Europeans were so dour? No jokes for you! The author has clearly thought carefully about his experiences away from mother Brazil and has lots of astute observations to share. The author has learned many languages, which puts him ahead of most people. Unfortunately, English grammar is not his strong point. The book needs an editor. You’ll be able to understand him just fine, but if you’re a native English speaker, you’ll chuckle at some of his constructions, assuming, of course, that you know English grammar yourself.

Good, but man, the typos
If you're considering the expat lifestyle, this book is a good place to start. It's well organized and has a lot of useful tips and tricks to make the transition to the expat life easier and less stressful. Now, anyone who knows me and knows my reviews can see what's coming a mile away: the typos. There are a ton of grammatical mistakes and other errors that should be very much cleaned up by the time a book like this is available, so I really can't give it a pass. But you can glean what the author is trying to say, so if you can live with the errors, it's worth checking this book out if you're going expat.

Interesting Reading
The book tells the experience of the author moving away from his country to live abroad in different places. Each person and country are unique, so expats will face different challenges and experiences. For Brazilians, family may be very important, but not for other nationalities. Therefore, although the book has great advice, I would take them with a grain of salt, understanding that your values and background may not be a perfect match to the ones in the book. But again, the book has great tips. It is very engaging and written in a warm tone. I particularly liked it when the author said that if you moved away, forget about your past because the home you knew does not exist anymore.

Before you move abroad read this book!
Full of great information and advice that clearly comes from the author's own life experience as an expat. It details how to prepare yourself for any move abroad and what to do (and what not do) when you get to your new country. It gives a heads up on what type of expat you are and what likely emotional stages you are going to experience on your expat journey. Lots of actionable tips and advice.
