Japan Hobby Tool Helical Grease #10 JHT9110 Made in Japan

Japan Hobby Tool grease has been a big help in me starting a new hobby, repairing and Cleaning, Lubricating, and Adjusting, old camera lenses. I was given an old Nikon 50mm AI'd lens from the 1960s, as well as a 1970s Nikon 43-86mm zoom that were both pretty unusable due to dried helicoid grease and internal dust and light fungus on internal glass lens elements. I was able to completely disassemble, clean every glass element, and to clean and regrease the the helicoids in these two lenses, and brought them each completely back to life by using this #10 grease from Japan Hobby Tool (and also some #30 in some places). Those two lenses are both operating perfectly and taking great photos. I have also used this on a couple of old Pentax 50mm lenses, a -A and a -M, as well as an ancient and unusable Vivitar 50mm lens. This JHT grease has been a big help in me resurrecting unusable lenses back to optimal working shape.

Richard Haw’s Nikon lens repair guides lead me here and I was nervous to try regreasing lens helicoids one my own. Especially since so many can evaporate and fog or damage lens elements. But this grease is easy to work with. Easy to apply and make my lens feel AMAZING to focus. You don’t really realize how much difference this can make on an old lens but now I often regrease old manual focus lens just so the feel is just right when I’m out shooting photos. Just be careful to apply as little as needed. Not much is needed to grease a helicoid. This grease is very light so if you want a more dampened feel, look at #30 All in all, I love this stuff. Stiff lenses are unbearable now that I’ve learned to use this

This is for #10. The good - This grease goes on nice and smooth. The directions state to only apply a tiny amount. It's the right consistency for helical gears, about NLGI #00. It has a great smooth and light feel once applied. The bad - 1: Limited technical documentation - Don't believe "picking a grease shouldn't be a science", it totally is and you have little idea what you're getting in this grease. Dow Chemicals grease catalog is massive for example, there is a grease for every application with different specs in their tech docs. 2: Terrible separation performance - I let mine sit for ~6 months and when I opened the container it was nearly totally separated. This applies to using at as well, even if you apply a little bit it will still separate a lot over time. Some helical gears need more than just a tiny bit of grease, and for those applications it's absolutely unusable. 3: Expensive for ~1 oz of grease, you can get big tubs of actual good grease for this application with technical documentation for less. And I wouldn't recommend Helimax XP grease for helical gears either. It has some of the same shortcomings, some different, but it doesn't separate nearly as much. In short, don't be fooled by the immediate and short term results. If you're re-lubricating old film lenses for a CLA, you're replacing a grease that likely lasted decades with a grease that may not even last a year or less.

This worked so efficiently that my mind was blown. The lubricant is thick but melts down well. A little goes a long way so don't think it's over priced for the size. It's well worth it's price.

Amazing what using a quality product does. I have been trying to use "that cheaper brand" of helical grease sold on amazon and could not figure out why, no matter how well I ultrasonically cleaned the parts, it felt rough and sticky. I broke down and bought this much more expensive brand and regreased a lens I had previously used that other stuff on (after cleaning even trace out and ultrasonic cleaning the parts) and it is a night and day difference. The lens is now literally smooth as silk, with the perfect amount of drag, without having to play with how much I applied to get the feel right. Just slathered it on with a brush, assembled and feel absolutely perfect. I can't say enough times, don't waste your time with that other cheap stuff. It's a total waste of your time, this grease is what you want for rebuilding a camera lens!

This is a light grease and was perfect for restoring my old pre-AI Nikon 105mm/2.5 lens. Before applying this, you must THOROUGHLY clean off the old grease. Take apart the old helicoids and scrub them in degreaser with a toothbrush until they sparkle like new. Then brush on a thin layer of JHT #10 for that silky-smooth feel. Very, very satisfying.

I used this to re-grease the green gunk that was originally used on the focus ring of my 1950's Agfa Record. Works a treat!

カセグレン型望遠鏡の接眼部取付台座のテーパー部分に使用しました。 接眼部を回転させる時のしっとりとした回り具合を実現できました。#1500で正解でした。 ただし、他の方のレビューにもありますが、ちょっと高いです。量は1/4で、1000円以下だとありがたいです。

#10や#30と混ぜて、粘度#50とか#100を作ると良い。

ビデオヘッドのメンテナンス用で購入。 ちょうどいい硬さで、ビデオヘッドの動きが滑らかになりました。

Used this on my old Nikon F lenses when I rebuilt them and man they are so buttery smooth and the dampening of this grease is amazing. Top notch product!!
