Review: A Small Rice Cooker That Makes Very Good Rice - I'm finally upgrading my various cookers to cook with stainless steel inner pots instead of non-stick pots. Today I used this rice cooker for the very first time. When first opening the package, I immediately noticed a couple of things. First, the looks like a quality cooker. Second, the cooker is smaller than I'm used to. It is only a 1.2 quart cooker whereas I'm used to 3 quart. But actually, the small size is perfect for one person. For dinner, I made 1 cup (before cooked) of brown rice. I also used the included stainless steel steam basket to steam some sardines, smoked oysters and a tomato. For the rice, I added 1 cup rice, 1 1/2 cup water and about a tablespoon of olive oil to prevent the rice from sticking to each other. Overall, I am impressed with the results. I didn't time how long it took to cook the rice but I say about 30-40 minutes. Upon uncovering, the rice looked great. They didn't stick to each other. However, the very bottom did have rice that was overcooked and stuck to the inner pot bottom. The steamed food was fine in temperature and taste. As for cleaning, I think having stainless steel help. I do have to soak the rice that sticks to the pot overnight. By morning, I expect them to easily come off. The stain steel basket was easy to clean with just liquid soap and water even though it got a little oily with the sardines and smoked oysters. As I mentioned, the inner pot is small. With just 1 cup of brown rice, the rice almost filled the pot. I figure if I was cooking white rice, that might even rise more and fill the pot. I haven't tried with white rice. Here is what I like and dislike of this rice cooker: Likes: ------- - made of good material and seems durable - stainless steel safer and no worry about non-stick coating anymore - small size perfect for 1 person Dislikes: ---------- - rice did stick to bottom of pot even after I added some olive oil to rice (but should clean off easily after soaked) I give the Aroma Housewares 1.2 QT stainless steel rice cooker 5 stars.

And you don’t have to keep monitoring the rice, it stops cooking it for you. Not Ai, I think it’s a timer. Last thing I love how I can cook food other than rice in it. **Q: Will this rice cooker be damaged if less than 1 cup (specifically, 1/4 cup) of rice or quinoa is cooked in it?**

Thank you for contacting Aroma Housewares. Yes, you do always have to cook 1 cup minimum of grain or rice in the unit. Otherwise the switch may not stay down as it is not sensing enough grain and water in there. **Q: What is the difference between cooking with this one and the model that has buttons specifically for cooking (one for rice, one for quinoa etc..)?**

This unit cooks based off the shift in weight as well as when you are cooking other contents other than rice you do have to keep an eye on the unit and switch it to warm once it is done cooking. Our digital rice cookers offer pre-programmed functions as the unit cooks based of the amount of steam being released based off its sensors. **Q: Can the steam tray be purchased separately? I want to buy the black version of this cooker, but also have the steam tray.**
A: I'm not aware of the steam tray being for sale separately. I bought this unit specifically because it included a steam tray. (My old rice cooker died, so now I have two steam trays and lids and inner pots.)

**Q: Can somebody please explain the rice : water ratio? is it just a normal 1:2? please explain without using the lines of the inner pot as measuremenment**
A: Regular rice is 2:1 water, rice.  Sushi rice and short grain rice is usually rinsed and can be soaked first.  In this case the water to rice ratio is equal.

I'm finally upgrading my various cookers to cook with stainless steel inner pots instead of non-stick pots. Today I used this rice cooker for the very first time. When first opening the package, I immediately noticed a couple of things. First, the looks like a quality cooker. Second, the cooker is smaller than I'm used to. It is only a 1.2 quart cooker whereas I'm used to 3 quart. But actually, the small size is perfect for one person. For dinner, I made 1 cup (before cooked) of brown rice.
