Would these work for hiking in the summer, or would they be too hot?

I'm 70 and not on blood thinners but my arms catch everything and make red spots and bruises. I try to use these on heavy cleaning days. They do feel a little irritating because they aren't soft cotton but they absolutely do what they are supposed to do and they are not hot.

Do these sleeves protect you from thorns from rose bushes and cactus?

They will protect you from a slice, e.g. a knife, but I am not sure about a "poke." The sleeves are woven, i.e. knit, so they are not a solid cover. I use elbow length gloves for my roses and cactus/thorn resistant gloves for cactus.

I'm 5'10" and 165 lbs. Will the average fit me?

yes. My brother is 6 feet 150 pound and it fits him.

Are these Waterproof?

I would not count on these for waterproof protection. They are intended for protection against cuts and scrapes .
